5.0 out of 5 stars This book is not a book. It is a people!, July 18, 2005
This review is from: American Dreams (Paperback)
Me too. I am a Latino in the USA. I am a character in AMERICAN DREAMS

While dazzling the reader with amazing turns of phrase, Gonzalez Viaña moves gracefully from hope to challenge and onto nostalgia, courage, adventure, and finally to love.

This book is not a book. It is a people!

Arte Publico's translation reveals to us a superb author. The characters and situations offer stories of Biblical dimensions. Fascinating!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am one of the characters in the book!!!, July 17, 2005
This review is from: American Dreams (Paperback)

I am one of the characters in the book, American Dreams. So, too, are you, and he, and she, and they, and all of us, Latinos and ancestors of Latino immigrants living in the United States. We populate these stories. All the characters represent us in the dream called America.

5.0 out of 5 stars A literary miracle, June 11, 2005
This review is from: American Dreams (Paperback)
A literary miracle... You will turn the pages until dawn. And you will not be disappointed.

You will become involved immediately. You are going to be in San Diego, Miami, New York or San Francisco. You are going to be a Latino.

Gonzalez Viana"s prose is clear and magical...

Ooooooooooooooppssss!!!!

Oooooops!!!......There is an error in the presentation of this book:
Eduardo Gonzalez Viana is the author.
The other person is the translator.
The form in which the book is presented in this e-store gives the erroneous impression of co-authorship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Only one word about this book: it's addictive!, June 11, 2005
This review is from: American Dreams (Paperback)
About AMERICAN DREAMS by Eduardo Gonzalez Viaña, Mario Vargas Llosa says:

"A magnificent testimony of the Latin American presence in the United States".

Now, I understand why.

This book is an explosion of wonder. A powerful exploration into the Latino world in the USA. Gonzalez Viana has an incredible power of description. He succeds in creating and fleshing out a cast of remarkable and unique characters.

Only one word about this book: it's addictive!

5.0 out of 5 stars The most creative!, July 18, 2005
This review is from: American Dreams (Paperback)
This is probably the most creative and far-reaching book of short stories I have read in many years. It is also the first book published in English by this extraordinary Peruvian-American writer. It says a great deal of what we can expect from Gonzalez Viaña in the future.
