This review is from: American Eagles: P-47 Thunderbolt Units of the Eighth Air Force: USAAF Colours 3 (Paperback)
This book is for anyone who is a fan of the legendary P-47 Thunderbolt. I would especially recommend it for modelers. It follows the development of unit markings from the beginning of WWII all the way to VE Day. Mr. Freeman goes into great detail on who, what, where, and why, when it comes to the evolution of camouflage (or bare metal) on the P-47. Many of my questions were answered... such as, "Why were canopies of the 56th FG's late-model Jugs unpainted?" A: Because they were removed before the aircraft were sprayed. Chris Davey's illustrations alone are worth the price of the book many times over. If you're a 'Bolt Geek, you'll love this book!
