The American Educational 6 Piece Glass Lens Set has lenses with different curvatures for demonstrating optical principles and effects for students. The set includes one each of the following lenses: double-convex, plano-convex, double-concave, plano-concave, concavo-convex, and convexo-concave. Double-convex, plano-convex, and concavo-convex lenses converge light rays to a point, and convexo-concave lenses diverge light rays from a point. A convergent and a divergent lens paired together will cancel out the optical effect of each lens. Lenses are used in scientific experiments and classroom demonstrations.

These lenses are not the best quality. They do work better than chunks of ice or glass shards to demonstrate the optical properties of vitreous material. Not a ringing endorsement, but there it is.

The purpose of these six lenses is to show students how the six combinations of curvatures of both surfaces produce three converging and three diverging lenses. The surfaces are meant to be inspected visually by students and felt by pinching the center of each lens with the thumb and forefinger and then sliding out to the edge. Whereas these lenses are not meant to be used in optical equipment, the optical quality of the set that I bought is quite good. The edges are nicely polished, and the curvatures match beautifully; namely, when the curved surfaces of the plano-convex and plano concave lenses are placed in contact coaxially, the effects of these lenses nicely cancel. A similar statement applies to the concavo-convex-converging and concavo-convex-diverging lenses. A knowledgeable science teacher can show a number of optical principles and effects with these lenses, and they are a great buy!

My son wanted to build a telescope at home so I ordered these lenses. The deal and price point were the reasons I went for it. There were 6 different type of lenses with the purchase and this gives me an opportunity to do a few more optic projects at home and a hope it sparks an interest for my son.
The product was delivered on time and came packed in bubble wrap and packaging so that was good. 2 of the 6 lenses were damaged at the outer edges. Not a whole lot but enough to notice and feel (few nicks on each lens).
I haven't used them yet so hopefully they work. Lens is clear and no blemish. The product didn't come with instructions on what type of lens is which, it's focal length or any other specs. Maybe a few examples or project ideas would be good to include that keeps the interest going. But perhaps the company has a separate purchase for a project book.
Overall I'm excited to work with my 8 yr old on this project and hope we succeed.
