Product Description

The American Educational, 7-1864, is a 104-piece basic molecular model set that includes 74 balls made of break-resistant, colored plastic, 30 bonding plugs, and is used to build simple organic and inorganic compounds. A molecular model set is used by educators, students, and researchers to construct models of various organic or inorganic compounds for teaching demonstrations, and to provide a hands-on learning experience.

This molecular model set can be used to construct a wide variety of simple organic compounds such as H2O, NaCl, H2SO4, O2, and C12. It can also be used to create simple inorganic compounds such as ethylene, acetylene, and propane. Model parts are made of strong, break-resistant colored plastic to withstand repeated use, and to provide identification. Connecting bonding plugs fit securely and flex for double binding applications. Precision-drilled balls allow accurate bonding angles.

American Educational Products manufactures educational and supplemental learning materials including math, science, and reading/language arts for pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students. The company, founded in 1986, is headquartered in Fort Collins, CO.

I got this as a Black Friday deal, so I didn't spend too much on it. The packaging it came in was dicolored and broken, but I wasn't planning on keeping it in that anyway. Some of the holes in the smaller molecules don't fit the pegs into them, but I fixed that pretty easily. The manual that came with it has a good overview of molecular chemistry. It's perfect for what I need it for, but it's not a high end chemistry set.

I bought this for my boyfriend who is going to take organic chemistry soon. Having taken organic chemistry myself I know it is imperative to have a molecular model set. I was lucky and was supplied one by my school but where he is attending you have to buy your own, so I got him this one as a gift. I did peek in the box and it doesn't look like anything fancy but it should suffice for an undergrad course. Price was right for what I got on the Black Friday deal. I was surprised that it came with the box being wooden rather than plastic. Does make it a tad heavy for carrying to and from class. I never carried mine but one may want to repackage it for easier carrying if you're someone who wants to have this in class with you and not just for homework. At some point I'll try to wheedle feedback out of him for an update. No guarantees though.

Not thrilled with this, if you know about chemistry already this is probably good but the instructions were pretty skimpy. Okay quality.

We are using these now for our homeschool and they have been a perfect addition to our Chemistry class. They are easy to use and are great to build molecule models with.
