Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 7 Up--Part of an excellent series, this volume opens with a chronology of world events during the Revolutionary period. Chapters focus on specific topics: "World Events," "The Arts," "Business & the Economy," "Education," "Law & Justice," "Lifestyles, Social Trends, & Fashion," "Military," "Religion," "Science & Medicine," and "Sports & Recreation." Each one contains a table of contents, a chronology of related events, an overview, a summary and explanation of "Topics in the News," brief biographies of "Headline Makers," and an annotated list of publications from the period. Boxed sidebars that cover peripheral topics such as the origin of the phrase "Bite the Bullet" are scattered throughout and include specific sources. The book ends with a list of general references by subject, a general index, and an index of the black-and-white photos and reproductions that appear throughout the text. Filled with clearly presented, easy-to-find information, this is a fine reference source.
