5.0 out of 5 stars Southern Rock At It's Best!
I've had "Airplay" on vinyl for years and love it. I ran across this double cd and thought I'd check it out and WOW! This is a great two-on-one cd. I love every song here. Great guitars...great keyboards...great vocals! Point Blank is an extremely overlooked old rock band. Sadly, they just don't make em like this anymore. This is one of the best cd purchases I've made in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Includes AOR hit "Nicole"
TWO ALBUMS ON ONE CD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Includes AOR hit "Nicole", December 13, 2004

TWO ALBUMS ON ONE CD.

***"American Exce$$" was Point Blank's big moment and included included a sizable AOR hit Nicole - you'll remember the very memorable driving rhythm. The album has great production for the era and another minor radio song, Let Me Stay With You Tonight. Extra points for awsome album art.

***"On a Roll" also featured two minor AOR radio tracks, Great White Line and the title track. Though, perhaps more memorable, is the introspective deep cut, Gone Hollywood - Just as American Exce$$ had awsome artwork, On A Roll has one of the wost covers of the 80s.

FYI - AOR stands for Album Oriented Rock, a very sucsessful FM radio format in the late 70s and early 80s. ...Post disco, pre Madona. Quite a lot of these stations evolved into Classic Rock stations as the format died in the late 80s and early 90s. Point Blank is one of the many bands that were sucsessful in the AOR era, but were excluded from most classic rock programing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Two-Fer From A Great Texas Rock Band, March 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Excess/On A Roll (Audio CD)
AMERICAN EXCE$$/ON A ROLL is yet another great two-fer from Texas rock band Point Blank and its pro-law-enforcement leader, guitarist Rusty Burns. Bubba Keith has replaced John O'Daniel on vocals, giving the band a slightly more commercial sound and style, but this set is still great. Now if only AIRPLAY and THE HARD WAY would be properly reissued.

I had this on vinyl. I got it again 'cause there were songs I liked: Nicole and Walk Across the Fire. I still enjoy them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Point Blank in the 80's, April 5, 2009
This review is from: American Excess/On A Roll (Audio CD)
These are the last two studio albums by Point Blank, originally on the MCA Label, hats off to Renaissance Records for putting these out on cd. Bubba Keith sang lead vocals on these except one song on American Exce$$ where then keyboard player Michael Hamilton sang lead (Cadillac Dragon). The band moved more into a AOR direction which kind of got away from the southern rock formula of the first four albums. There is a clip on YouTube of the re-formed Point Blank with original lead singer John O Daniel taking a whack at Nicole a song he absolutely cannot sing. I liked both of these albums even though the sound is quite different from the first two albums especially, it's still good rock and roll.

I Remember purchasing Point Blanks album"On A Roll" when it first came out, by chance really,I liked the album cover, and the bands name sounded good , so it was really on a whim, as they were generally overlooked by the Canadian music Scene. When I got the album home and had a listen I was Very Impressed on this Bands writing abilities, not to mention the fabulous mixing and general sound from a technical aspect! "Point Blank" Superb!!Catchy riffs, great harmonies,Southern Rock at it's finest,This album contains the Best from "Point Blank" you won't be disappointed. If your a fan,,, you already know,, if your not "give em a go"!!You soon will be!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Listen to the lyrics!, December 8, 2003
By A Customer
When i first bought this album, a few years ago I was angree at myself that i did not listen to this album in the store first because i would not have bought it then.

But after listening to it for a few times I realy got in to this cd. Singing along with 'Raw Meat' or 'somebody special'
I resonated with 'pipeline' and the emotions and questions Fish has add in this song. The lyrics are fantastic! It takes some effort to listen to it the first time but after this you will understand why this album was made in this way.

Bit different but still very very good!
As all albums fish has made!
