A Kid's Review
This review is from: American Family of the Colonial Era Paper Dolls (Dover Paper Dolls) (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book. The family includes grandparents, parents, and 4 children. It shows the family as the farming class, middle class, upper class, and after the war. The costumes are beautiful and historically accurate. It could be used in the classroom to show children what the costume our forefathers wore were like. I highly recommend this book if you are interested in the colonial period, or just love paperdolls. It may not be suitable for very young children, as some of the ladies' costumes have fragile headdresses.

This paper doll set was one of many that I found extremely interesting and fun. The clothing items were gorgeous...much nicer than some others I have gotten lately and Tom Tierney has once again created great characters for all paper-doll collectors.

Like my review is titled this book is a very unique one. It includes Hannah the mother and Samuel the father. I was not impressed with the parents. They have an older son John I wasn't impressed with either. Then, though, they have an older daughter Prudence. She is very lovely and has some very unique costumes. Then is the son Benjamin. He was very well done, too. My favorite is the next daughter Sarah. She is very pretty and has lovely attire. Ruth and Thomas are hooked together, but are adorable. The book over all has an old fashioned look to it. If you like collecting historical paper dolls this one is necessary.

I thought that this book was brilliant! It was kind of shocking when I got it, I hadn't heard about Tom Tierney, because the paper dolls and costumes were so pretty. I really never thought anyone could draw like it. This is one of the greatest of his books.
