Brian Wicklund's American Fiddle Method is an idea whose time has come. It's well organized, correctly paced, and most importantly, it teaches the real stuff.

The songs are well graded and appropriate for beginners, the illustrations are helpful and fun, and the recording that accompanies the book is excellent.
