This review is from: American Film Inst: Clint Eastwood [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was first an ABC network special back in 1996,co-hosted by Jim Carrey and Rene Russo.Jim Carrey worked with Clint Eastwood in "The Dead Pool" in 1988 and "Pink Cadillac" in 1989 when Carrey was an unknown actor.Rene Russo appeared with Eastwood in "In the Line of Fire" in 1993.They both do a fine job as hosts.Eastwood's many fans will find this an entertaining 90 mins. This special features many highlights from his life and film career. Also it features his mother,(who was in her 80's at the time),his wife, his son Kyle and his daughter Alison. It features tributes from his friends Don Rickles,Donald Sutherland,Dylan McDermott and Steven Spielberg plus many others. The AFI Lifetime Achievement Award was begun by The American Film Institute back in 1973.The Director John Ford was the first honoree.Other honorees during the '70's included James Cagney, Bette Davis,Orson Welles,James Stewart and Alfred Hitchcock. Recent honorees included Barbara Streisand in 2001,Harrison Ford in 2000,Dustin Hoffman,Directors Robert Wise,Martin Scorcese and Steven Spielberg and Jack Nicholson. The filmmaking community consider The AFI Lifetime Achievement Award the greatest honor a filmmaker can receive, even greater than the Academy Award. |
