Do you like true and false tests? Oh, no you might say, but if the answer is hiding somewhere, say in this book, you might enjoy searching for it. Everything in this book is true except for the one true or false question in the front of this book. There are all kinds of interesting things to know about the American flag. Right on the front of this book it says that there are more than 50 million flags sold every year. Imagine that!

Whenever you go out chances are you will see a flag. This book says that the flag "is an important symbol" as it represents the United States. They are everywhere, including one on the moon! You will learn the history of the flag and find out the answers to many questions you might have. Did you know that if the flag is flown upside down at sea it means that the ship is in serious trouble? Did you know that Robert G. Heft's teacher gave him a B- for his design of the flag we now fly? Did you know there was an American flag that weighed more than 3,000 pounds? Now that gives new meaning to the word, whopper!

The Scholastic series of "True Books" are wonderfully illustrated with photographs, drawings, maps and an informative, fun and easy to read text. The challenge of finding the correct answer posed in the front of the book can spur the reluctant reader to action. In the back of the book there is a page on flag statistics, "important words," an index and additional recommended resources. Just how much do YOU know about our flag?

I am collecting this series for my grandchildren and was pleased to find one on the flag. Being a military family, we want our children to understand it's great significance to our heritage.
