5.0 out of 5 stars Color the flowers, don't pick them.
Dover flower coloring books are hard to beat. Inexpensive & accurate, they are ideal for older children & adults & well-suited for a set of colored pencils rather than crayons. American Wild Flowers would please even Ladybird Johnson.

Fantastic. These books are the best I have found to find pictures to use as templets or stencils for designs to paint on silk.

I just purchased these Dover COloring Books for my mother and she loves them. The detail is out of this world and the variety of colors you can use are only limited by your inagination. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

I purchased this coloring book for my grandmother who has Alzheimer's. It helps her feel as if she is accomplishing something and also she is using her mind and hands to stay in the lines. It's an ideal coloring book for anyone who wishes to color like they use to.

I love Dover Coloring books and this one is no exception. I use these coloring books to teach my kids about flowers. Each picture in this coloring book has the name of the flower (common and Latin) and where the plant is from and where it currently grows. The front and back cover contain colored pictures so you can see what colors the flowers actually are.

Flowers in the book:
Balsam-root, Bee-balm, Black-eyed Susan, Blue Phlox, Bluebells, Bottle-gentian, Buttercup, California-poppy, Cardinal-flower, Cobra-plant, Columbine, Cow-lily, Early Azalea, Flame-Azalea, Goldenrod, Great Laurel, Green-banded Mariposa, Harebell, Indian Paint-Brush, Juck-in-the-pulpit, Marsh-marigold, Mountain-laurel, New England Aster, Pasque-flower, Passion-flower, Pitcher-plant, Prickly Pear, Purple Pentstemon, Show Lady's-slipper, Small Purple Fringed Orchid, Spiderwort, Swamp Iris, Swamp Mallow, Tall Larkspur, Trout Lily, Trumpet-honeysuckle, Trumpet-vine, Turk's-cap-lily, Water-lily, Waxy-leaved thistle, Western Red Lily, Wild Geranium, Wild Lupine, Wild Pink, Willowherb, and Yellow jessamine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for teaching or recreation, September 24, 2011

I bought this book for my school aged children when teaching them how to identify flowers in the spring. My girls loved it, but even the boys enjoyed and learned from it. Recently I bought the same book to give to my 86 year old mother who wanted "to color". She enjoyed the book so much I bought another one for my 85 year old uncle who used to teach biology. Great book for all generations!

Our mother has always been an avid reader, but doesn't have the memory any longer required to read novels. However, she wants activities that keep her mind alert and engaged. (Ever doodle in a business meeting? Same concept!) The traditional coloring books available in the book sections of big-box stores are always created for children, and don't have the detail or subjects geared toward adults.

These books are heaven-sent. The paper is thick enough to hold up to various coloring mediums. The lines are very defined and dark, and easy to see against the white background. This book's drawings are lovely--reminiscent of antique botanical prints.

The cost is very reasonable--about the same as the children's coloring books in big-box stores. There may be fewer pages, but the details of the pictures allow her to dedicate more time and cognitive effort to making something beautiful. In addition, they may qualify for the 4-for-3 sales Amazon sometimes has for their print materials.
