I needed to figure out what to do with a 50+ year old American Flyer train set. This catalog came in very handy as I could determine which items were reasonably valuable and I was able to sell them on eBay for prices very close to those in the catalog.

Once again another great resource from Greenberg. Updated values on all American Flyer as well as the other current producers of "S" gauge models. Always an excellent resource for us.

Easy to use pocket guide. Very useful in looking up prices before bidding on ebay. Has lists for products made by Gilbert, Lionel, American Models and S-Helper Service along with a listing of Gilbert catalogs and paper. THIS BOOK LISTS FOR $15.95. DO NOT PAY MORE THAN YOU SHOULD! GO TO EBAY AND GET IT OR THE 2011 EDITION FOR $16.95!!!

The book about American Flyer trains and equipment was very specific and helpful for me, since my goal was to learn about the worth of these trains. I remember them from my childhood and my mother worked for a rail line, so train memorabilia was something that evoked warm thoughts and happy memories. The book was excellent, covering the era I was specifically interested in, and giving good explanations about how to judge the quality of the pieces in question, as well as price ranges to expect. I especially liked the bits of historical information that were included as I researched the different years of production. Amazon was amazingly prompt and helpful delivering this book to me, as I needed to complete the research quickly.

I get one every year to keep up on price variations, look for rarities and see what may have been manufactured for a club that I missed collecting, so I can keep my eyes out for one (or two)!). These guides are almost always spot on with value of each item by variation.

I just got started with American Flyer trains and started buying a few things on EBay. Wish I'd have gotten this book first as it turns out I over paid for some things that "seemed" like good deals. If I had gotten this book first it would have paid for itself after my first 2 EBay purchases. This book only lists prices though; if you want more detail about an American Flyer item you'll want to get Standard Catalog of American Flyer Trains.
