Don't try to use this as a hedge trimmer! However, it's perfectly suited for trimming rose bushes and small hedges in a garden. Much better price than similar competing products from major home improvement stores.

Great gift and a workhorse for around the home,

This unit is good within its limits: it's a small hedge clipper, meaning the blade is not long enough to do a big, sculpted privet hedge, but it is long enough to do shrubs around the house and small hedges. The addition of the grass blade means you can do around the mailbox post, or those places under the fence.
For big jobs, you'd need a long hedge clipper and for much grass, a cord trimmer. But this is probably what you'll grab to do most jobs around the lawn. It makes a good wedding or housewarming present.

Broken on a branch,
This review is from: American Gardener SHR6 6-Inch Shrub Clipper with Extra 4-Inch Grass Shear Blade (Lawn & Patio)
The second time I used this item, trimming grass around a bush, one of the plastic gears (inaccessibly) inside the gearbox snapped off when I caught the clippers on a branch. It's irreparable now. It would seem the only use for this thing is to trim in places where there's too much obstruction to use the mower, but I guess it's too delicate. It had caught on branches before, and, sensibly, jammed, so I could back off and start again, but I guess you only get a dozen or so "incidents" before it gives up for good. A complete waste of money.
