Book Description

AMERICAN GODDESSES
"If you're looking for pure fun and entertainment, this is the book for you. If you love strong women, super-heroes and happy endings, this is the book for you." ~ author Kathy Lynn Hall, RED MOJO MAMA

"Mind-blowing, action filled and on par with some of the greatest movies of all times. This book will keep you turning pages until the end." ~ reviewer Melanie Carrico, HAVE YOU HEARD MY BOOK REVIEW

SUMMARY
When two small-town women find themselves with nearly unlimited powers of mind and body, their lives get complicated. Things turn nasty as a shadowy organization attempts to use Megan and Trish for their own evil ends, and destroy them, their town and the USA in the process.

"This author painted, with this novel, a picture of ordinary women in extraordinary circumstances and could not have done better. This was simply one of my top reads of the year.

You MUST pick this book up. There's no recommending or not recommending here, it's a requirement. There are few authors I pick up on their release day but the next book in this series, the day it goes on sale, I'm there." ~ reviewer Tammy Dewhirst, RABID READERS BOOK REVIEWS

5.0 out of 5 stars A great summer read June 17, 2012
By Mr. Sly
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Load this one up on your Kindle or iPad and prepare to decompress. A fast moving, well written adventure/sci-fi yarn about the paranormal - but with an amusing twist. Mr.Henry has the chops to keep you entertained and engaged in the mold of Clive Cussler, et al. Check it out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reads like a comic book without the pictures August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Two women have found themselves transformed into mighty superheroes after undergoing an experimental medical procedure intended to increase their disease resistance. It's an easy transformation physically, but becoming an invulnerable, telepathic, flying human takes a toll on one's relationships. Megan finds her friends feel uncomfortable around her and suddenly are no longer available for happy hours. Trish's boyfriend feels threatened, and a prank has bone breaking consequences due to her new powers. Superpowers seem to initially bring out the worst in the women. Megan's assertive nature goes into overdrive. She telekinetically locks down the fridge door so her husband can't get a beer, melts his weights in a fit of anger, and forcibly hauls him home when she finds him cheating with a reporter. No wonder her marriage is on the rocks. Trish saves a jumper, but her method of suicide prevention by repeatedly dropping the guy and scooping him up would probably be frowned upon by psychologists everywhere.

The women mature rapidly though, when a psychic attack leaves Megan devastated and the city of Lawrencedale Kansas (and the world!) is threatened by a subversive organization looking to free an explosives mastermind from jail. Can the ladies and their newfound super-sisters save the world? Catch the bad guys and bring them to justice? Foil the evil intentions of the Russian psychic Melnikov?

American Goddesses reads like a comic book without the pictures. The style, character development, plot, and themes are all in keeping with those superhero comics and movies we devoured as kids. Oddly enough, that was the one regret I had with this book. The good guys were good, the loose ends all tied up in neat, morally satisfying bundles at the end. It was just too good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me reading! July 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed the story American Goddesses even though it did get a bit sappy towards the end. Now being an emotional female, I cried and hugged and shared the sorrow with the characters, but a guy would probably say, "Okay enough of the tears, just get on with the story already.... Alright a man hug. There are you happy now?"

American Goddesses is a story about two women, Megan and Trish, who volunteer for a medical experiment that could wipe out all diseases known to man or woman, from the common cold to cancer. What they get are super powers that complicate their lives in good and bad ways.

Gary did an excellent job of weaving the story so that you felt you were a part of it. You felt the emotions of the characters. You could see them just as clearly as if you were in Gary's head as he wrote.

Would I recommend American Goddesses? Yes. Would I give it five stars? Yes, I would.

4.0 out of 5 stars AN UNFORGETABLE DEBUT NOVEL! August 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A contemporary doorway into a "possible future" - doesn't get much better than that!

I love a book that has a fast pace. If you also like this, this is the book for you.

This book will take you on a journey of many emotions. Two protagonists, Megan and Trish are likable and you won't soon forget either one of them.

A must read! Very well written debut novel.
Can't wait for Gary Henry's next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable July 7, 2012
By Rivka
Format:Kindle Edition
I really enjoyed this book. I've read books about "possible futures", and always wondered how they came to where they were. American Godesses is a refreshing change, because it is the contemporary doorway into a "possible future". The fictional future in Gary Henry's world is wide open and full of possiblities, and very thought provoking; you will be thinking about it long after you are finished reading it.

This book was fun, fast-paced, emotional and interesting the whole way through. I recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing June 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't believe I let this book sit on my kindle for so long without reading it. It was probably one of the most enjoyable books I'd read so far this year; suspenseful, empowering, thrilling and just delicious all the way around. I don't want to go into it the story because I tend to give away too much, but suffice to say the two leading ladies are excellent role models and they are brilliantly three dimensional. You feel like you know them personally; their emotions feel real. Definitely worth your time to read. *****

5.0 out of 5 stars Suspension of disbelief NOT required! May 13, 2013
By Wendy J
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Henry makes his characters come alive and turns his phrases with a delightful, fresh voice. What's not to love about believable characters doing unbelievable things? While certainly out of the norm, this tale of average women beset with everyday struggles who at the same time fly "at the speed of thought" and deftly pulverize evil doers, seems entirely plausible. Even expected! AMERICAN GODDESSES. In my book, an irresistible read.

American Goddesses is a fresh and fun story about two women, Megan and Trish, who inadvertently acquire superheroine powers while participating in psychic ability studies. They face many challenges, from dealing with the reactions of husband and boyfriend, learning when to hold back their powers, and an evil plot to use them in terrorist attacks. Gary Henry displays a fun wit and great originality in this story. I like how he takes the women's side of things against the clueless men. Plus there's a great twist at the end, with the arrival of more superheroine goddesses, and a new hope for the world. Very enjoyable!
