5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Romkey strikes again.
Michael Romkey's latest vampire novel follows the journey of a new vampire protagonist (this is not a David Parker novel) as he descends into despair during the Civil War, becomes a creature of the night, and seeks some sort of redemption in modern-day America in a three-stage voyage that describes a very long and dark night of the vampire's soul. There are plenty of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Little to do with the vampire
I was disappointed in this book. The book itself covers very little about the vampire's life and more about the human people he comes into contact with. Which is a shame because the main character is someone I would have liked the author to tell more about. There are 3 stages. The first covers the main character before he becomes a vampire, the 2nd mainly covers a doctor...

There are plenty of interesting secondary characters and the writing is some of Mike's best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good Vampire fiction, January 30, 2006
This review is from: American Gothic (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first book by by Micheal Romkey. I loved the idea of the book. This book showed a "human" side of the vampire that I have not read in any books. You saw a full circle of the vampire life. Starting with a man whos life was destroyed and was taked to be a vampire. You see the madness of his revenge and "disease." And you see him return to a state of "human" while still a vampire. I enjoyed this book and think that it has a place in the library of vampire fiction.

Which is a shame because the main character is someone I would have liked the author to tell more about. There are 3 stages. The first covers the main character before he becomes a vampire, the 2nd mainly covers a doctor in Haiti, and the last covers a young girl in present time. It left me wanting to know more about the vampire.
