Editorial Reviews

American Guitar is a collection of original and traditional fingerstyle songs as hot and sultry as a summer's day. Reminiscent of front porch picking, this newest Pat Donohue recording showcases songs that have shaped American music, as well as dynamic new compositions. Powerful, sentimental, flawless, American Guitar brings listeners to the very roots of American culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Guitar - Pat Donohue ( Dec. 2000 ) December 28, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Excellent fingerpicking folk style "american standard" history.
Hearing the beautifull renditions on a modern acoustic adds to
the unique enjoyment. PHC and bluegrass fans would especially enjoy this.

I'm a big fan of Pat Donohue, but I think that this may be his best recording. Very consistent quality throughout, each cut is a keeper. My favorite piece is "Into The Garden", a sweet instrumental tribute to his dear, departed dog.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pat Donohue has amazing talent September 25, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This CD gives Pat Donohue the opportunity to show just exactly how fantastic his guitar pickin' really is! Many of the songs are his originals and they are beautiful. I have followed him around (along with Butch Thompson) on the Prairie Home Companion cruises and am always somewhat disappointed that he usually accompanies another artist rather than shine on his own. This CD is ALL Pat Donohue and you can't get much better than that!

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic from a master May 13, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Fingerpicking master Pat Donohue has delivered an eminently listenable collection of songs that leave any guitar player (or wannabe) in awe. A nice mix of original music and classics all arranged by Pat and played with the amazingly fluid style and perfection of technique that is his trademark. From the energy of "Novocaine" to the peaceful "Into the Garden" to the bluesy "Joe Fingers" - his original music spans a nice dynamic range that gives the set pacing and direction. Love the "Star Spangled Banner" arrangement at the end. Found the arrangement of "Hard Times" a bit understated, but that's only because I love that song so much. Heard a song from this album online at Folk Alley ([...]) and instantly ordered the CD. You won't be disappointed if you do the same!
