This unit is the very best metal detector I have seen for under $80. It has no target identification meter, but it does have a very decent discrimination control and reasonably good depth for it's price. In an air test I was able to detect a US penny at 7 inches away from the search coil, and that again is quite remarkable for the amount of money I invested buying it.

I own about 20 other metal detectors, some costing as much as $1000. I was a detector repairman during the 80's, and I have used nearly every metal detector on the retail market in the last 30 years. I would recommend this detector as the very best starter detector to be found, and as for myself, I plan to use it too, especially in gravel or dirt parking lots where it seems to shine. The search rod is barely long enough for me at 6'1", but it is adequate. The housing is well made and sturdy, although the rear armrest is a little inadequate in that it does not always stop it from pulling away from my forearm as I swing it. But that could be easily remedied with a lightweight strap of some kind. I think I got a real good deal with this detector. It is a very nice little detector.

The performance is unbelievable. The price is unbeatable. The headphone is very comfortable. Highly recommend.

I bought a basic one for my son and the explorer model for myself. We both enjoy our new toys. For explorer metal detector, it is light and comes with many feature coming with advanced model.

I believe there is no metal detector out there that can accurately distinguish between all metals to a specific degree. By this I mean, when the unit states it's a nickel I find a matchbox car. But hey it still found metal. There is more learning to do with using the different modes, but as we use it more it will become easier to understand and detect between the different audibles. With that in mind, I can honestly say we are extremely pleased American Hawks Explorer II. I am quite impressed with the depth reading - very accurate. After using this one day, we found about 50 matchbox cars, very old toothpaste tube, lots of pennies and old hand tools.

The headphones are very comfortable and the carrying bag is sturdy and makes it easy to transport the metal detector anywhere. Excellent value for the price.

Just a note: remember to remove all your jewelry since it will interfere with the readings.

My son was very exited with the product! It got deliver faster than I thought, and he already found about $50 in change in one week!

I bought my daught the basic model two years ago. Now she got this one. She just can't stop using it.

Pure Junk! The Main frame that screws onto the other frame will not stay together. This item is totally useless, and with having to go through all the hassle with returning it and getting only a fraction of my money back, I thought I would save others the MISERY-DO NOT ORDER from American Hawks product line. I say it again, DO NOT ORDER from American Hawks product line. The item is extremely cheap and the postage was totally outrageous. I spent close to $80.00 for this piece of junk--save your money for a decent metal detector. This metal detector reminds of the same kind of junk you would buy at one of those charlatan-snake oil salesman tent sales. Like the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. And again, NO STARS for American Hawks and their product line!

I tried verious brands but returned all of them due to the inteference. I am in UK and this is my first purchase in amazon. I like the product and did some inteference test. I uploaded it to youtube. Not sure whether the link is allowed.

My mom bought this for our new baby girl. There is no interference for me. The sound is very clear. The vision is very sharp. Night vision is a little dark. I recommend this to other new parents. I feel my baby is with me all the time.
