American Heritage Series,

Why 5 stars?
First, my exposure to American History has been based on opinions from the so-called experts throughout my entire life. During my highschool and college years, the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and even the Declaration of Independence was never taught. My American History from the public school system was so dismal that I until lately I couldn't even tell you who authored these documents. It is refreshing to be introduce to Founding Fathers using their own primary source words and documents. Second,I enjoyed the casual conversation between David Barton and the hosts. If you can back up your statements with factual documents, I have the time to listen to you. I must concur that the advertisements between segments is a little too much, but I just fast forward through them. Third, I've seen many negative comments about David Barton from the academia world. These "so called" experts spent a vast amount of time trying to disprove David Barton's claim; but, they never backed up their own sources. Until you can back up your statements with primary documents from the founders, I must dismiss your statements. I especially enjoyed one "expert" who recommended the "Godless Constitution" as an alternative. However, when a book has NO footnotes to back up its claim, it becomes worthless in my eyes. I rather take one statement from a Founder's document than a book from an unknown professor who cannot take the time to justify his own resources. If you're looking for a video series about the creation of our nation using primary source documents, this might be for you.

This is the education we should have had...,

David Barton has done his homework. How refreshing to learn the facts that are sadly omitted in today's public schools. All our kids should learn this to fully appreciate the heritage of this great county and what was in the hearts of our nations founders. Learn what you should have been taught and gain a new pride and love of our country and why these truths must be taught, lest we forget and become unrecognizable as America. If you have SkyAngel TV, you can watch these shows on The Golden Eagle Channel.

Primary sources, original letters = truth,

This amazing collection uses primary source documents, not a professor, or a politician or a journalist repeating what they have heard from another professor or politician or journalist but what our Founding Fathers and others actually wrote in their own hand. History sourced in this manner is reliably correct. Any other approach is no more than opinion. The American Heritage Series

The informational content is superb but it is presented in a combination of psudeo talk show and lecture format. In addition, Mr. Barton speaks very fast and dispenses a large volume of information in a short amount of time. The result is that the episodes tend to be dry and boring. Adding to these difficulties is the fact the DVDs include the promotions for the series from when it aired on TV. As a result the episodes are interupted approximately every 8 minutes with what amounts to a commercial for the series. This gets exceptionally tiring after a short period of time. While I would wish that every high school student in the nation along and every adult citizen study this series, I think that anyone who is not seriously interested in the subject matter will find watching it to be a tedious affair.

Evidence for our Christian Heritage Enlightening,
This review is from: The American Heritage Series (DVD)
Since I received a public education that was sanitized of all evidence to support our Godly and Christian heritage, it is enlightening to have access to this thoroughly documented information. To our own demise, the majority continue to allow the secular humanistic indoctrination of our children through the tax-funded government education establishment. The agenda is clear and, by evidence of our decaying society and accelerating culture war, it's working.

This wonderfully done DVD collection is a must-have for anyone who considers themselves to be (a) a "history buff", (b) politically involved, or (c) an American. Here is the thing, David Barton tells the truth, the irrefutable truth. He has evidence to back up every single claim made in this series. If you want to see that written proof, or if you simply want more details on the topics covered in this DVD set, I cannot encourage you enough to also get David Barton's book titled "Original Intent". That book has 80 pages of footnotes, giving you all of the proof you need.
I would also like to make a personal request to anyone with children -- Please buy this DVD set and sit down with your children and watch it together (not all at once, mind you :). Not only will you enjoy the time with your children, but you will be a better parent and your children better people for it.

At a time when it seems that we can't trust our TV, many scientists, many representatives, many historians, hollywood etc., along comes this DVD series to make us realize that those doubts are not unfounded. Real, documented, unspoken facts are still out there to show us the reality of things and to show us that we're not crazy to think that things have seemed suspiciously out of wack for decades. It's actually more than decades when you start seeing where and how the truth and intent of our founders and Constitution have been corrupted. To those who have looked at history as something bland and boring and who've listened to "TV experts" and political pundits tell you about our roots and founding and founders intent and Constitution and who has manipulated who, you will find this information and the documents presented to be very surprising. I was pretty stunned to find out a few things in particular. It's one thing to hear judges, lawyers and pundits tell you about their interpretation of the Constitution and founders intent and quite another to see and hear the founders words and documents setting the record straight. There is so much more. The sections on Americans of African decent are pretty amazing as well. The history of unity and patriotism is nice to learn after our usual TV diet of division and accusation. Unity and patriotism DO also have a strong history in America. America really is a great country wherever patriots stand. I also love the way these DVDs not only don't hold back, but they show the strong religious heritage that guided our founders. They just lay it out there and as we all know, facts are stubborn things. There are some amazing stories about the patriot preachers who guided their congregations to stand for their God given rights. My only wish is that they would have removed some title sequences and just kept the dialogue moving. Since this was originally produced for TV, the title sequences that would come out of commercials or breaks are in there. Some info is repeated several times on these discs, but it's interesting information and since there is so much information on these discs, it's not a bad thing to hear points of interest a few times in different context to help you absorb it. David Barton does an excellent job laying out the stories and documented history of this country. If you really take pride in this country and want to understand why we excelled and what obstacles have run interference, this is a very worthy investment that I will I think that many would watch over and over and encourage others to watch. It would make an exellent gift too.

MUST HAVE SERIES!,
This review is from: The American Heritage Series (DVD)
This is a *must have* video series for anyone interested in the truth about early American history. I have shown many of the videos to my secular friends who were simply blown away by the facts and original documents shown in the video. This is also a fantastic witnessing tool and a great conversational ice breaker as David Barton is not preachy but rather straight forward letting the documents speak for themselves. I have shown this to the most secular individuals and they thoroughly enjoy watching it. This series is so profound and useful (for both witnessing and building up) that I am buying a couple more sets to pass around to my friends.

The Truth about our Founding Fathers,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The American Heritage Series (DVD)
What I enjoyed about the series is that it proves it's conclusions about the Founding Fathers from actual documents written back in day, 1700's - 1800's. This author does not rely on modern day interpretations. The actual documents speak for themselves. There is also a website to go to that tells you where to find these documents. [...] . The video quality is first rate and interesting. David Barton appears to be very knowledgeable and sincere.
As with anything, I did not like the commercial endorsements on every episode, but such is life. I can speed right by them. Knowing the real history makes a difference as to why we believe what we believe. |
