5.0 out of 5 stars Touching History, April 17, 2001

Meg Mackintosh is at it again, and this time reaches back into several historical settings. Meg,her brother Peter, and Gramps are off on a history making exploration. After they receive several important clues they set out on a journey that takes them across the country and back in time. Ms. Landon uses historical facts to point the children in the right direction. Students can't help but learn many interesting facts as they uncover each mystery. It is almost as if my class could actually touch a period in time they were learning about. The story of the missing silver coins and the ride of William Dawes instilled in the children a sense of wonder as they helped Meg unravel the clues. Such ecxitement over a historical event, that one may take for granted, warms a teacher's heart. The students will always remember that Paul Revere was not the only rider on that fateful night. I think this book is a must have for a fourth grade classroom. It brings history to life for the children. Remember, at this age we have a lot of background knowledge to build and this is one exciting way to do it.
