Great Resource for All Health Seekers,
By Chet Day (Shelby, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
GUIDE TO HOLISTIC HEALING A Review by Chet DayLarry Trivieri's new book, "Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness," belongs in the library of every serious health student because it provides a thoughtful and comprehensive overview of the major therapies of holistic medicine. Detailed chapters discuss nutritional medicine, environmental medicine, mind-body medicine, osteopathic medicine, chiropractic, botanical medicine, bodywork, naturopathic medicine, homeopathy, ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, yoga, and other therapies of holistic medicine. When I finished "Guide to Holistic Health," I felt for the first time that I had a really solid understanding of all the major approaches to health in the holistic healing movement. Having seen so many of my friends and family members harmed, maimed, or even killed by traditional medicine, I personally maintain a strong bias against the drug, cut, and burn approach. With that said, after finishing Trivieri's book, I felt better about doctors in general because it's obvious more and more physicians are rejecting the status quo approach for methods that are more in tune with the natural rhythms and needs of the human mind and body. Overall, "Guide to Holistic Health" is well-written, informative, comprehensive, and full of helpful techniques that the serious health seeker can put right to use.

The best overview of holistic therapies I've ever read,
By A Customer
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
I couldn't disagree more with the reviewer who called this book a rehash of Burton Goldberg's Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide (which I also highly recommend). Yes, the Guide is a wonderful book, and for that matter, Trivieri, the author of this book, also served as the editor and writer for the Guide. But to call his book a "rehash" couldn't be farther from the truth. I have read over a hundred books on the subject of holistic healing/alternative medicine, and never before have I read a book that so wonderfully explains the major therapies of holistic medicine and what it means to be healthy in "body, mind, and spirit," the way Trivieri's book does. The therapies he writes about here are covered in far more depth than in the Definitive Guide, and they are explained in a manner that makes them far more understandable and credible to readers who are unfamiliar with them. The chapter on Yoga alone was an eye opener for me. What I also like about this book are the many studies cited in support of each therapy, as well as the case histories that beautifully illustrate how effective they can be.It also helps that each chapter contains the authoritative voice of a top expert in each modality. I rate this book 5 stars because of its combination of comprehensive scholarship and understandability. By all means, buy it if you are at all interested in learning about proven alternatives to drugs and surgery that only treat symptoms, not the causes of dis-ease!

Informative, Enjoyable Tome,
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
This book is on my shelf next to Ultraprevention, another winner in the introductory holistic genre. Quite frankly, it's amazing how most of us have the power to transform our health to optimal levels, yet so many are too skeptical, or dare I say too lazy, to do the simple things needed...eat well, keep the mind clear, etc. The solution to the problem of disease does not always have to be complicated. Nutrition especially has the potential to be as potent as medication, without the side effects.
As someone who believes in the merit of holistic health, this book made perfect sense to me and was enjoyable as well as informative. I would imagine that those who are like-minded would critique this book similarly. To those who typically question the value of holistic medicine, keep an open mind and give this book (and the advice within) a genuine try.

American Holistic Association Guide & The Winkle Cure,
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
These books were required reading in my Holistic practice. I found both these books very informative. I put to practice some information found in the Wrinkle Cure book and have been getting comments that I now look 40 when in actuallity I am 62. I have been able to pass this information onto some of my patients and they are trying it on themselves. The American Holistic Association Guide reinforced some of the teachings that I had just finished in getting my degree in the Holistic Method of healing. Both books were very interesting.

My fave!,

This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
Out of five books, I chose this one on Holistic Health. Its scope just can't be matched. After checking it out from our enormous library in Fresno, I decided to buy it on Amazon for its constant reference value. I also decided to read it from cover to cover - not just hit and miss; otherwise, I might miss something.

Informative & well-written,
By Kirsten Kruse "Kirsten" (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
I bought this book for a class in Holistic Health Practices. It is well organized and well written. It is a little boring to read, because there are no illustrations or graphs. It gives a very good overview of all the alternative medical systems from acupuncture, ayurveda, chiropractic, osteopathy, homeopathy, etc., explaining how each system evolved, how it sees the patient and how it treats illnesses and which conditions it is good for. I highly recommend it if you are interested in taking charge of your health via alternative medicine or to supplement what western medicine can do for you.

I absolutely love this book! It was required for me to buy for school but I ended up reading every chapter (even the ones that were not assigned for class). A great reference. I will hold on to this book for a long time.

This book has a good overview of Holistic Health. I'm using it in my Holistic Health class and find it very interesting. The read is easy. It gives you a general idea of the different types of Holistic Healing.
I especially like the list of vitamins they have in Chapter 2 or 4. It talks about what the vitamins are important for and what food it can be found in.

Just a rehash,
By A Customer
This review is from: The American Holistic Medical Association Guide to Holistic Health: Healing Therapies for Optimal Wellness (Hardcover)
This book is basically just a rehash of Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide by Burton Goldberg, only not nearly as complete or useful as that book. In fact, a careful reading will show that Trivieri's book contains sections that are just rewrites of information from the Guide. The Goldberg book goes into much more detail (including plenty of references to back up the material) and also includes a large section on treating specific health conditions - something Trivieri's book doesn't have at all. Not recommended.
