I picked up a copy of this book about 8 years ago on a whim. I own at least a dozen gardening books and this book was hands down the best book for me. It includes concise and very helpful information on care, maintenance, pest control and other general gardening information. There are lists of plants that will suit specific soil, water and sunlight conditions. At its heart though, it is an encyclopedia of plants suitable for gardens. Each entry includes the plant's zone, water, soil and light preferences, propagation methods and a wealth of other information, including photos of several or many different cultivars. I used it to identify plants already in the garden and took this book with me each time I went to the nursery to supplement the information provided on the plant tags. I pored over it selecting plants that would be the perfect height, texture and color for each spot in my garden. I used it so constantly over the years while working on my ever evolving and expanding garden that I literally wore the book out and had to get a new copy. I have given copies to gardening friends as housewarming gifts. We just sold our home, and I got a copy for the new owners that I marked the page of each plant in the garden with a post-it sharing the location, cultivar name, and any tips on bloom time, color etc. This is a perfect book for someone who loves plants and gardening.

I have a great love of Horticulture. This book provides extensive detail for the many different types of garden plants and flowers that have been included in an easy to read format. And, of course, the photos are gorgeous. This is one of the most treasured books in my library.
