Ridiculous, Weak Money-Grab Attempt / Snoozefest,
By George Buttner "Agent0042" (Dayton, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: American Idol Unauthorized (DVD)
"American Idol Unauthorized" is a third-party DVD blaring that it contains "THE TRUTH BEHIND AMERICA'S #1 TV SHOW!" (emphasis being the DVD back cover's) It promises candid interviews with the contestants showing what life like AFTER the spotlight has faded.
Unfortunately, the format of this DVD is just boring. They opted for some lame, ultra-serious sounding documentary format. After about ten-twenty minutes in, you still haven't gotten any real dirt yet. Maybe there's some dirt in here somewhere, but I promise you, you are getting pretty *much* nothing that you couldn't find out about from the comfort of your Internet connection online, or that you haven't seen before. Seriously, "Idol" deserves a tongue-in-cheek format. This DVD takes itself way too seriously. This DVD was released by "Crystal Home Entertainment," though maybe it should be called "Crystal Meth Home Entertainment," because if you seriously watch all 210 minutes of the content of this, you'll probably feel like smoking some. Not that I recommend that -- drugs are bad, kiddies. Would you be surprised to learn that this DVD doesn't have any close-captions or subtitles? No? Seriously, folks, don't buy this. I didn't -- I checked it out from the library. Your tax dollars at work. So see if your library has this, if you absolutely must take a look at it. Or just watch "Idol" itself, I mean, there are four hours on a week -- do we really need this DVD?
