Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 4-6. Sherrow presents a historical overview of childhood in American Indian life. She addresses homes, spirituality, food, games, and coming of age among tribes in each of six geographical regions of the U.S. With an unvarying, dull style, the text suggests reference use for reports. Illustrated with archival photographs in sepia tones, plus one good map that shows the locations of the various peoples, this volume is serviceable. Evelyn Wolfson's Growing Up Indian (Walker, 1986) is organized in a question-and-answer format. There is a certain sameness to the information in Sherrow's text that makes for ponderous reading, but it is functional.?Jacqueline Elsner, Athens Regional Library, GA
