"Dr. Shalts accomplishes a great deal in one book. He presents a history of homeopathy, explains what to expect in a homeopathic interview, and delves into home treatment. The case descriptions are compelling and create a feeling as though Dr. Shalts is speaking to each parent individually. Great job!"
--Amy Rothenberg, N.D., D.H.A.N.P., and Paul Herscu, N.D., D.H.A.N.P., cofounders and principal instructors, New England School of Homeopathy
"Dr. Shalts’s Handbook has made homeopathy more accessible with it’s clear and concise description of the practical uses of this potent medical therapy. Effective for all ages and a wide range of illnesses homeopathy can now be part of every family’s home first-aid kit, and part of every patient’s choice for treatment of many common conditions with this book’s recommendations."
--Robert Schiller, M.D., chairman, Department of Family Medicine, Beth Israel Medical Center; assistant professor, department of family medicine, Albert Einstein College of Medicine; senior vice president, Institute for Urban Family Health
"Edward Shalts is one of the nation’s most gifted homeopathic physicians. As an M.D. trained in both family medicine and psychiatry, he has written the definitive family guide to homeopathy, suitable for practitioners, consumers, and especially parents. This is a must-have reference guide in homeopathy."
--Woodson C. Merrell, M.D., M. Anthony Fisher Director of Integrative Medicine, Continuum Center for Health and Healing, Beth Israel Medical Center; assistant clinical professor of medicine, Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons
The American Institute of Homeopathy (AIH) is the oldest medical organization in the United States, founded three years before the American Medical Association. This comprehensive book is the first AIH publication that offers another option for parents who are reluctant to participate in the widespread extreme measures of conventional medicine such as the overuse of stimulants, antidepressants, and antibiotics. Step-by-step, Edward Shalts, a medical doctor who practices homeopathic medicine, explains what homeopathy is and how it works. He presents a user-friendly overview of acute and chronic issues and shows how parents can deal with them, either on their own for some problems, or in many cases, with a qualified practitioner. This important resource explains the principles of homeopathy, the nature of remedies, and the appropriate time to use homeopathy.
"Homeopathy can now be part of every family's home first-aid kit and part of every patient's choice for treatment of many common conditions with this book's recommendations."

not much of a self-help book,

This review is from: The American Institute of Homeopathy Handbook for Parents: A Guide to Healthy Treatment for Everything from Colds and Allergies to ADHD, Obesity, and Depression (Paperback)
I'm glad I got this from the library before buying it. This has very little self-help in it. There are other books with more complete and more easily searched self-help sections.
This book might be good if you need to be convinced about the usefulness and benefits of homeopathy for your family, but I'm past that point and got very annoyed at being cautioned on about every other page that I need to work with a trained homeopath and could not possibly do or comprehend more than simple acute care by myself. It was written on behalf of the American Institute of Homeopathy so maybe that explains something. He also cautions ominously against polypharmacy, but never gave any reason or proof why this should be so bad.

A long term user of homeopathy myself, I have been looking for a
Clear and precise book on this subject. I have read many. This is the best one so far. It is concise, very well written and just simply fun to read. Dr. Shalts obviously loves what he does. And he also knows how to explain things to non-medical folk. I find the book very useful. Even the introduction offers tons of important, very interesting information and Food for thought. Dr. Shalts discusses controversial ideas that surround homeopathy head on with clarity of thought and concern for safety of patients. Advice on self-utilization of homoeopathy is also very clear. The book is called a handbook for parents, but I think everyone interested in homeopathy and holistic medicine ought to have it!

FANTASTIC & WELL-WRITTEN,

This review is from: The American Institute of Homeopathy Handbook for Parents: A Guide to Healthy Treatment for Everything from Colds and Allergies to ADHD, Obesity, and Depression (Paperback)
Dr. Shalts reasonable explanation of the four levels of health and how homeopathy bolsters resilience made so much sense when I read this book that I was able to select remedies and put the homeopathic principles to use right away. It is my fervent hope that my children grow up independent of medications and full of energy, as well as with strong minds and bodies. After reading the AIH Handbook for Parents, I've got another tool that beautifully supports them. It makes me feel confident that the author is both an MD and a DHt. So many books in this category look like they belong on a coffee table. This book has real, practical advice and clear instructions (not pretty photos).
