Editorial Reviews

Review

Our friend Sandy has designed 14 very successful projects; the cover quilt is particularly gorgeous. Cheerful and fresh colours for traditional quilts updated in the most charming way. --QuiltMania, the Quilt magazine, Issue No. 70, France

This title by Sandy Klop puts the fun back in quilting. This has 14 light-hearted, enjoyable projects with a vintage flair that will have special appeal to gardeners. The techniques include appliqué and piecing. Most of these quilt projects are suitable for beginners.
For each season, this book offers exquisite quilts. Start the spring season with the gorgeous appliquéd and pieced daisy quilt.
For summer there is a lovely whimsical checkered quilt with cherries and chickens. The designs for fall feature apples and fall foliage. Two of the autumn quilts are in traditional autumn colors. This has a gorgeous appliquéd folk art Christmas quilt decorated with holly leaves and berries, pineapples, and a Christmas tree.
These wall quilts come in a range of sizes. For each quilt, this has a list of fabrics, a cutting chart, and color illustrated, easy to follow, step-by-step directions. There are full-size templates and layouts as well as suggested quilting designs. The introduction covers all of the basic sewing and quilting techniques, including the binding and quilting. The author carefully explains strip piecing and appliqué. --Connie Krochmal, bellaonline.com

American Jane's Quilts for All Seasons ... and Some for No Reason, the full title of Sandy Klop's new Martingale & Company book, gives just a tiny hint of all the whimsy and fun inside. The 14 fully-patterned quilts are divided by season, and include beautiful pieced and appliquéd designs, all with Sandy's unique, folk-art flair. --From McCall's Quilting magazine

About the Author

Sandy Klop was trained as an art teacher and began quilting in 1979 while she was living in Iran and then Saudi Arabia, teaching at an American school. One of her first quilts was a baby quilt, made for her third child who was born in Saudi Arabia.

Back in California in 1984, Sandy continued to expand her interest in quilting and improve her skills. She worked at a local quilt store and began teaching classes. In 2000, she published a series of three quilt books. In 2002, she started creating her own pattern and marketing them under the name American Jane Patterns. The following year she was invited to become a fabric designer for Moda Fabrics.

She has had quilts displayed at Houston Quilt Market and at the Pacific International Quilt Festival. She has 130 quilt patterns on display on her website.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting projects!, February 11, 2009

This review is from: American Jane's Quilts for All Seasons: and Some for No Reason (Paperback)
I love Sandy Klopp's free-spirited mix of colors, as well as her vintage style. She offers up a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced projects to appeal to a range of quilters' abilities. And while I would love to have the quilt that's featured on the cover, I plan to start with some of the easy applique projects: the adorable Scottie quilt and the heart quilt.

In collecting fabrics for my projects, I'm already wishing that her directions for fabric amounts were easier for a beginner to cope with. For example, directions to assemble 3 yards total of assorted fabrics doesn't really tell you what size of cut to get. A quilter with intermediate or advanced skills, of course, can certainly figure it out by measuring the size of the templates. Someone just starting out might not think of it.

Overall, however, the book is appealing from start to finish. Whether you actually make any of the projects or not, it's great eye-candy for armchair enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Quilter's Gem, November 16, 2008

This review is from: American Jane's Quilts for All Seasons: and Some for No Reason (Paperback)
I've been a fan of Sandy Klop and her quilting patterns for years and this new book is a gem. I've had the pleasure of taking quilting classes from her and always learn so much. Her teaching methods along with her kindness, patience and enthusiasm for quilting are reflected in these pages. The quilts are not only delightful but each offers great tips and tricks that any quilter can benefit from (like her tip for making pieced diamonds - Sandy makes it simple!). The patterns are great for stash busting or any variety of color ways. It only touches the surface of the many quilts she has available at[...] and truly reflects her fresh style of traditional quilt making. These are quilts that just make you want to smile. I can't wait to start my next one!

I received my copy of this beautiful book this weekend and could not put it down. My first project from this book will be the "Dancing Ladies", I love the fabrics used in the quilt, I wish I had access to the French fabrics like the sample in the book. The patterns are easy to follow, I can't wait to make some of quilts in book.
