5.0 out of 5 stars Superstardom here they come!, June 1, 2001
By
Thornton F. Cole "evilsailor9" (Chicago or an airport near you) - See all my reviews
This review is from: American Jet Set (Audio CD)
Over the top production, wailing Gretsch's, a textured 3-tone guitar attack and a massive drum sound have this band destined to achieve stardom. Holding the record for most sellouts at Chicago's Metro, beating out the likes of Smashing Pumpkins and Urge Overkill, this band is a show to see. They have opened for many bands including GooGooDolls and Stabbing Westward. This latest CD is perhaps one of the greatest indie label shockers you will ever find and a mere indication of the live power of the band. "Get Famous" rocks like a T Rex anthem, "American Jet Set" has an incredible guitar sound and excellent stop/starts to get the kids hopping. "Don't Die Wondering" is a perfect mix of Ride, Orgy, My Bloody Valentine and early-Cure. A truly amazing CD...a must own if you like the aforementioned bands. Remember that you heard it here first---Kill Hannah will be HUGE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Future Number One, May 1, 2000

This review is from: American Jet Set (Audio CD)
Kill Hannah creates cinematic rock influxed with space age glitter pop-with the hooks to catch you! "Sick Boy" is a power hit sometimes heard booming in downtown Chicago danceclubs and one can't help but sing along to "I, I, Love, Love, You, You..." "All That He Wants(American Jetset)" has this killer guitar jam and break that will rock the pants off of you. "Los Angeles" has more of a metal feel to it, with the mega power chords and gang backup vocals, but this is far from Metallica. "Hypreactive" and "Don't Die Wondering" are both excellent songs to make out to, as they are excellent to do anything to- but most especially listen to. "He Believes in Time Machines" is a bit of a bonus track. This song is as breathtaking as it is beautiful, with distortion that could be slightly reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, and ooo ooo ooo's that soothe your soul. "He Believes in Time Machines" also appears on the out of print and extremely rare Hummingbirds the Size of Bullets EP, Kill Hannah's first release. The bands sound has evolved since then, but who is to say that is BAD? Kill Hannah creates rock that once you pop you can't stop. Let's hope you have a repeat button on your cd player because if you don't once you buy this cd you will have to press play everytime it ends. And though they mainly play shows in Chicago, I suggest wherever you may live- be it New York, London, Australia or Pakistan- get your booty into Chicago and see Kill Hannah- it's definitely worth it. I swear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like No Other, October 16, 2001
This review is from: American Jet Set (Audio CD)
American Jet Set was my first Kill Hannah purchase. I immediately bought it after seeing them live at the Metro in Chicago. What can I say? I can hear several influences in their music yet at the same time, it is completely different from the current trends in music. "American Jet Set" hooks you with the chorus and the interesting keyboards and guitars. "Nerve Gas" which was on an earlier release, is a beautiful love song delivered with a sonic attack, the guitars and drums are simply amazing. "Don't Die Wondering" is like an ode to Orgy, only in my opinion, is better than said group. "Sick Boy" screams radio hit and as much as one would like to call it the "sell out" hit in the indie world, it is simply addicting. "Get Famous" to be honest has some of the cheesiest lyrics ever written...."and the pharmacist recommends a B complex for this condition".....oh bring on the cheddar! Yet musically it is great, the guitars grab you and make the song grow on you. "He Believes In Time Machines" closes out the CD and what a way to go out. This song I believe turned me into a hardcore fan. It is gorgeous. The distorted guitars combined with the cooing backing vocals creates an aura of sadness, yet it makes the sadness seem beautiful. If I hated all the other songs, I would still buy this CD just on the strength of this one alone, I feel that strongly about it. So I took the scenic route to say that Kill Hannah is a band to watch and this CD reflects that.
