This review is from: American Justice: Why O.J. Simpson Won [VHS] (VHS Tape)
'Why O.J. Simpson Won' is a fantastic, objective, open-minded, and haunting look at the most famous trial of the 20th century. The murder trial of O.J. Simpson lasted for months, and most of the American public was facinated by the case. When O.J. was aquitted, it was the most watched event in television history, and it divided the nation into black and white. White Americans were stunned by the 'not guilty' verdict, while African Americans were joyful and cheered out loud. This program is neither for or against O.J, and points out the major mistakes made by both the defense and prosecution. It seems like, though, the prosecution made the most important mistakes, and that is why they lost.
It also has interviews with certain members of the jury. The jury was criticized for its quick decision, and the media and the public blamed the "uneducated" jury for the decision. Nontheless, the interviews with the jury members are interesting because it shows how they looked at the trial. Their reasoning was just and had nothing to do with aquitting an African American because most of them were African American. The jurors say this themselves, and the video has legal experts confirming that idea.
There is a strong chance that O.J. might have committed the murders, but the whole point of the program is to show that the jury could not believe either side. With the evidence presented by the prosecution, the jury could find enough reasonable doubt for voting 'not guilty. That is why they set Simpson free. Whether the majority of the people like it or not, that is how our justice system works.
