Gr 6-10-Overviews of 10 American rock-and-roll stars who have obtained "legendary" status. Knapp begins with Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and Ritchie Valens. The `60s are represented by the Beach Boys, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, the Doors, and Jimi Hendrix. Each biographical sketch contains a couple of black-and-white publicity photos of the artist(s) and a brief list of suggested recordings. The writing is merely serviceable and it is hard to see, given the format, how this book can be widely useful. The short sketches give barely more information than a typical encyclopedia article, and full-length biographies, in many cases written for young people, are available for many of the performers mentioned here.-Tim Wadham, Dallas Public Library,
