DELTA LASERLIGHT's American Legends series was produced in 1996 by Rod McKuen. Cover art is of US commemorative stamps issued ten years earlier.
The four-page insert included with this Duke Ellington edition has little more than a brief bio and playlist-- no recording dates, personnel, etc. Source material is degraded 78s and LPs. Depending on the track, surface hiss, groove lathe, crackle and other imperfections are apparent. None of the monaural sides (some older than others) is without flaw. A lone stereo recording, the 14 minute "Harlem" suite fares better in this regard. Duke fans who can tolerate less-than-perfect transfers will still find this low-priced album satisfactory. Ideal listening place might be an automobile. Not recommended for headphone usage. TOTAL PLAYING TIME: 55:52 |
