I bought this a couple of years ago, and it has worked great. I installed it under the cabinets that are over the kitchen sink. Wiring was straight forward, and we use the wall-switch to turn it on/off. I would recommend this product as hardwired. Not sure about the plastic switch.

This light has a great price point, can be direct wired to a dimmer, and has a nice satin nickel finish. Two installation/design challenges:

1. the punch outs along the back edge for the wiring grommet conflict with the way the cover folds back into place. You may need to turn the retaining ring on the grommet to get the door to close.

2. The rocker switch that comes installed in the unit is plastic and is only held in place by little plastic friction tabs. The wiring can force the switch to pop out so keep the wiring connections at the other end of the box.

If you are installing new wiring as the kitchen is being build, be sure to leave at least 24" from the face of the wall to get to the light and into the wiring box. Also, there are small black o-ring washers for the screws of the wiring box cover which are easily overlooked.

We ordered these in various sizes to have installed in our new kitchen cabinets. We love them - they provide the perfect amount of light for the countertop workspace. The high/low switches are a great feature; we have all of the lights hard-wired into one switch near our sink, but we can turn individual lights off, low, or high depending on the need. The low setting gives a nice glow in the kitchen, and the high setting provides the extra light for reading recipe books, etc.

One tip: be sure to order light fixtures that are slightly smaller than the stated width of your cabinets, so they will fit up inside the edging.

Very satisfied with purchase. This is a quality product. Well designed and manufactured. If you need undercabinet lights, these are highly recommended. And these qualified for super saver shipping too.
