The mantles that i purchased thru amazon.com arrived in three days.This is much more quicker than i expected.I maintain about 50 gas lights in a neighborhood in my hometown.These mantles worked perfectly.They are durable and handle the wind and shaking of the gas light very well.I will be ordering more when spring time rolls around.Amazon verified purchase

These are quite useless if you want bright street lighting. Last longer than the soft ones but produces no light at all. I bought 4 of these. Now I have two useless mantles and the current ones are still in good shape but I will need to get rid of them for producing no light. Waste of money.

These were easy to install, and burn very bright. I'm very happy with these mantles, and I will order them again in the future.

I noticed this option for hard inverted mantles, and decided to give it a try after having problems with conventional mantles because they didn't last very long (say 6 weeks for so). I'm sold on these new (to me) hard inverted mantles, and the last set was good for 6 months or more. Even though they're more expensive to beging with, they save money in the long run because they last so much longer. The writeup on these mantles also claims that there is some gas savings due to the tighter weave of these mantles which requires less gas to provide the same amount of light. I don't have any detailed data on gas usage, but gas usage did not increase. To my eye, these mantles burn brighter and more uniformally than conventional mantles.

I had purchased 8 of these hard inverted mantles from American Mantle, but when I tried to replace 2 old mantles I had in my outdoor gaslamp, 1 of the new ones I just purchased crumbled when I took it out of the box and another would only light on one side. I have ordered from this vendor before and of the six I had previously bought, 1 would not light at all for some reason. I don't know if this company's stock is too old, not being stored/handled properly, or just lacking in quality control, but caveat emptor.

Received two in first order and one was broken. The mantels are too small and do not give enought light. The soft are cheaper and work better.
