5.0 out of 5 stars Vivid & Borderline Prophetic Page Turner!, August 1, 2011
This review is from: American Midnight (Paperback)
This gripping and articulately descriptive novel had me hanging in suspense way past my bedtime. What starts off as a look into the life of the main character Tania becomes a fast paced roller coaster ride with many twists and turns. The depiction of where the nation may be headed is a thought provoking wake up call to the reader. The central theme of faith is inspiring and encourages all of us to dig deeper into our convictions and priorities. I can't wait to see if the authors will resume the plotline. I for one will be lined up to find out what transpires with the characters and the notorious Unity Party...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Frank review of American Midnight, by Brandon Barr & Mike Lynch, September 29, 2010
This review is from: American Midnight (Paperback)
George Orwell said, "During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." It is in such a political climate that we live, and that Barr & Lynch have set their political thriller, American Midnight. The message of truth could not be clearer.

We follow Tania, a typical teen trying to grow up in the sometimes cruel world. Her search for answers occurs at a time of deceit such as Orwell spoke, and therefore leads her to far more dire circumstances than your average teen discovers.

It would take only a nudge to make the United States exactly as Barr and Lynch portray, and therein lays the impetus to page-turn. It's like watching an automobile accident. As Tania goes from the frying pan to the fire, the reader is unable to pull themselves away from this story. It is so believable to be frightening.

In our post 9/11 world as the war-on-terror lurches into a peace at any price mentality, the warnings in American Midnight are indeed Orwellian. This is a very important novel for modern culture as the United States flirts with the fascism of early twentieth century Europe.

5.0 out of 5 stars American Midnight-Kept me up!, September 8, 2010

This review is from: American Midnight (Paperback)
So I thought I would support my friend Mike's hobby of writing by purchasing American Midnight. I eagerly awaited it's arrival. It was the end of a long day and I decided to pick it up for some reading before I went to sleep....did I say sleep, I stayed up most the night. I could not put the book down. I read it while I was cooking breakfast the next day, during my breaks at work. I could not put it down. I was taken in immediately by the characters and the story. I loved how there were several stories going on throughout the chapters and how everything worked it's way together. Like a puzzle the pieces that were coming together created this great story. I can not wait to read their other books and look forward to further writings.

5.0 out of 5 stars You won't put it down!, August 22, 2010
This review is from: American Midnight (Paperback)
Brandon Barr and Mike Lynch have written a story that grabs you from the start, accelerates all the way through and leaves you hungry for more! The possibility of our nation heading in the direction described in this book is a bit scary and also all too realistic. This story will be sure to make you think about our current political climate and where you stand with your faith. I read this book over the course of two days and never put it down when I had the chance to keep reading. You may find yourself emotionally drained as the storyline unfolds and you are on the edge of your seat, hoping and praying for the characters involved. The authors have the ability to draw you into the story where you find you are caught up in the unfolding drama. You just have to turn the next page! Great read, I loved it, you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars I hope they write a sequel., August 13, 2010
This review is from: American Midnight (Paperback)
I blew off my plans for the day because I did not want to put the book down, reading the last third in one sitting. I loved the author's use of flashbacks for the plane crash. The last one had me in tears. If you like the Left Behind series, you will like this book.

American Midnight is an interesting book with its teenage heroine facing real life problems under circumstances not too far from consideration in our world today. The action moves quickly and involves the reader intimately.

I wish the Italic font size was easier to read.
