King of the historical novelty songs,

"North to Alaska," Sink The Bismark," "Johnny Reb," and especially "The Battle of New Orleans," are all fun little history lessons courtesy of one of rock's originals; Johnny Horton. This collection's really just a primer with just 25 minutes of playing time. In today's age of the 74 minute CD, this is a major rip. If you can't find this one at a major discount try one of the more extensive collections. That being said this is a lot of fun. Horton has an expressive voice with a lot of range and the songs range from borderline hilarious to some fairly good rockabilly. It's a shame he met an early death; there's definitely some real talent here.

You may not know the name, but you should know the music.,

Johnny Horton is known by only a few fans, but chances are, you have heard at least one of his songs. This CD has all of my favorites on it, except for "Whispering Pines." The thing about his music is, if you aren't happy, the tunes will slowly cheer you up, and make the day brighter. If you are already happy, it gives you a good reason to tap your foot, and soon you'll catch yourself whistling or singing it everywhere. If you have no clue what you are looking at, just go ahead and buy it, I promise you will not be disappointed.
