It gave me what I needed to put together a slide show of pictures...Plenty of song choices to choose from.

American patriotism can sometimes seem bizarre to foreingers. Canadians for example. But the strangeness is often rooted in jealousy. At Canadian football and baseball games, we sit on our hands and yawn as someone belts out "O Canada".

Lee Greenwood certainly belts out "God Bless America". And when he does, it brings tears to my eyes and makes me wish that Canadians were as "patriotic" and seemed to love our conutry to the same degree.

Perhaps Greenwood is over the top at times, but who cares. Sit down and wallow in the emotion and sloppiness of the maudlin aspects of the album. Don't get me wrong; I love the music and passion. I only wish my fellow Canadians has similar passion. I am so jealous. America is beautiful but so is my country. But Americans are indeed fortunate to make music like that found in this wonderful album.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, September 26, 2001
This review is from: American Patriot (Audio CD)
When I returned from the Gulf, Lee Greenwood had a concert for us and our families at Marine Corps Base, 29 Palms,CA. There's no way to describe the way we were all feeling, but leave it to say that most of us tough Marines were crying after "God Bless the USA". I bought the tape and have played it every July 4th since. It's so good that now I'm buying the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Patriotic CD, July 31, 2001

My son's fourth grade teacher has this CD and played it for his class quite frequently. My son, who has never expressed much interest in listening to music, came home telling me about it and wanted me to buy one for him. Since it's an older CD, we didn't have much luck finding it in the stores. Thanks to Amazon.com we were able to order it! We really love this CD and I get a kick out of watching my son (who's terribly shy) sing along LOUDLY to all the songs. It's great not only to play around the Fourth of July - but year round as well!

I bought this CD mainly for God Bless the USA which I have loved since it first came out. I thought I was getting an added bonus when I noticed God Bless America was included on the CD. Let me tell you that all the other tracks are added bonuses. Tears come to my eyes during each and every song. It is quite evident that Mr. Greenwood sings from the heart. His love for this country comes through in every clear, patriotic note. One of the great songs on this CD that I fell in love with was The Great Defenders. As our troops have headed off to defend our country I found this song to be very fitting. The military, in all forms, is truly the great defenders of this wonderful country. I only wish this song would be released on the radio so everyone could hear it. It is definitely an appropriate anthem for today. God bless Mr. Greenwood who is truly an American patriot. And God Bless the USA!

If the events of last month have left you feeling patriotic, this CD is a must!!! I was not exactly sure what I was getting when I purchased this. I knew I loved the song "God bless the USA" and I liked the other songs on the CD. Little did I realize that I was getting the best patriotic CD that I have ever heard. Lee Greenwood brings out the emotions contained in these songs in a fantastic manner!!!

The song on this CD, God Bless the USA is powerful alone. But in light of recent events, this is a thousand time more powerful. Play this everyday to get your blood pumping and more patriotic.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE CD for those who want to feel Patriotism, September 29, 2001

I'd like to say that this CD and especially the immensely popular
God Bless the USA have reinvigorated my patriotic senses.
The first time I heard the song was back
in October 1990, as we were in the midst
of the Gulf War. I can honestly say, that was the first
time I realized what I had as an American Citizen.
Now, timelier than ever- this CD explains to
us through each of the tracks what we've fought
through to gain what we are priveledged to have.
Overall, this is a superb compilation.

4.0 out of 5 stars God Bless the USA, September 26, 2001
This review is from: American Patriot (Audio CD)
Back when this recording came out, and was only available on cassette,I helped a young man find it for a class that he was taking, and he told me he'd love me forever. I wish I could give a copy of it either on CD or cassette to everyone who has been
involved or has lost family and friends in the recent events. It
pretty well sums up the way that I feel. I am trying to get more copies for my library, and will get a new one for myself. I would
recommend it to anyone who wants to feel uplifted at this time, and hope that it continues to instill the spirit of this country especially at this crucial time. God Bless America!

5.0 out of 5 stars Britain and America - united we stand, February 22, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: American Patriot (Audio CD)
I have long been a fan of Lee Greenwood, and his enthusiasm for his country is obvious in these songs. Of course, his own song (God bless the USA) is here - it is the song he is best known for in America. In Britain, he is known (if at all) for Wind beneath my wings, but that is for a different review.

Of the other songs, track 2 (simply titled America) shows America's colonial heritage - it has the same tune as the British national anthem, but I've not heard these words except on this album.

Woody Guthrie intended This land is your land to be an anti-establishment song, implying that the people should rise up and claim what was theirs, but it obviously didn't work out that way. As its inclusion here proves, the establishment has embraced the song enthusiastically.

Perhaps the best two songs are at the end. America the beautiful is inspiring, while Star spangled banner is, together with the French anthem, one of the most stirring national anthems there is.

I guess not many Brits listen to American patriotic music, but there are times when I want to stand shoulder to shoulder with my American friends. This is not something I play very often, and I can't imagine buying another album of similar music, but just occasionally, I need this. When I first wrote this review, our troops were preparing jointly to do battle (again) against Saddam Hussein and it was just the right time to give this a listen. With the unfolding disaster caused by Hurricane Katrina, I returned to this album once again. I am with my American friends in mind and spirit in these terrible times.
