I really like the pictures in this book. There are some errors, but it has enough good reference material to be worth the price.

This is a good source or research book for cake sand colectors. We wish more picture of depression era cake stands, along with prices, had been added. This is a good start, but there is so much other information which could have been added. Would recommend.

I find this a very useful book for identifying patterns and it does provide provide an outlook as to potential value. I was more hoping for more beautiful photographs like on the cover and was therfore very dissapointed from that perspective; the vast majority of photos are fairly poor quality. The overall layout of the book is a bit inconsistent; the book is appropriately arranged alphabetically by pattern name, however there are those times when the authors choose to arbitraily throw in patterns by manufacturer. If your looking for that beautiful Thousand Eye pattern on the cover you'll need to know that it was made by Adams, as it is listed as Adam's Thousand Eye.There is also the unfortunate layout where the pattern title is at the bottom of a page with description and images on following pages. As a reference book this oversight is a significant inconvenience that could have been easily addressed in editing. The major title of "Cake Stands" implies that one should be able to identify a cake stand of any given pattern; this is not the case as many patterns do have value listings for cake stands but no images to adequately identify how a pattern might appear as a cake stand. These and other minor inconsistancies are annoyance. However this is a very useful reference book for many EAPG cake stands. |
