I am a frequent buyer of updated home medical books, and have pretty much seen them all. This one is quite superior! It is easy to find various medical conditions, complete in its coverage, and written in a way that the average layperson will understand. The illustrated color pictures are very well done, a rare treat, and contribute well to one's understanding of the copy. In short, it's the best home medical book I've ever seen. I recommend it without reservation.

The authors, publishers and editors put incredible effort into this comprehensive guide and desreve some high praise. Not only is it a self help guide, but it is very educational too. As a physiology graduate student I am highly impressed with its graphics and easy to follow/understand guides and information. It doesn't just explain the symptoms as other "complete guides" do, but it first provides educational info. on how the deseases infect your cells and/or how the body works to fight it off, second it provides symptoms, and third what you should do and what your doctor may do. This guide is truelly amazing from its easy to follow flow charts to its comprehensive drug reveiw. Again, it goes well beyond others in its class. Furthermore the quality of the book is striking; all pages glossy w/ full color pictures. The cost of the book is only 40$ (28$ at amazon) which is well worth its cover. Remember the easiest way to treat a symptom is to treat it early and that is where this guide comes into play; as well as educational purposes.

It's difficult to review something so extensive in just a few paragraphs so I'll keep it as simple as possible.....

...Bought this book for my parents and am going to buy one for myself right now. Will probably give a copy to my cousin who's just starting college. An extremely helpful and informative medical reference guide - over 1000 pages. Very well organized. The information is presented in many different ways so that all types of readers can understand - photographs, illustrations, charts, graphs, tables - simple and thorough. If this book doesn't have the answer - it will point you in the right direction to find it.... In my opinion a must for every home reference library like a dictionary or a thesaurus.

If you have reservations about purchasing it on-line, this book is worth checking out at your local bookstore.

The Complete Home Medical Guide is a complete life-changing experience! Many congratulations to the publishers DK for their insight and understanding of the American market. All too often have we Americans felt too cerebrally inferior to approach our physicians in order to understand everyday medical conditions. The graphics are overwhelmingly colorful and brilliant; the complexities of modern-day medicine are explained in such awe-inspiring, vivid, intelligible prose; and the overall content a great tribute to the staff who must have put their heart and soul into a book that is obviously going to take the charts by storm. Keep up the good work, DK! I'll be looking forward to the second edition!

As a clinician, not all is new matterial to me, it is always helpful to either double check or look for other possibilities and explanations. As a mother, I find this book as a must in every house. You understand better and get answers that your physician/Pediatrician may not give you. Some times you just don't know what to ask, and it helps a lot. The CD .....that's something else! Beautiful 3D scanning of body organs, systems with simple, yet informative, explanations/definitions and more.

As I said - a MUST in every home!

The informative book contains well over 1000 pages of good reference material. The book discusses the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis of certain conditions and it contains about two thousand full-color illustrations that let you see disease symptoms up close, understand the anatomy, and view treatments. It also comes wtih a CD-Rom that explores different body systems. I think this is agreat book for the average person to buy, read and have around the house. The more information we get and the more we know about our bodies, diseases and anatomy, the better off we are in general.

I have over the years purchased the FOUR top rated home medical guides in my quest to find the best. By best I mean the one that meets all of my families needs. I tried to be as unbiased as possible in examining all four books, concentrating my efforts by comparing them for organization and content. Sadly all four have their own shortcomings. All provide solid a reference for home/family health. But some are far better than others. I rated all based on a max. of five stars possible. I compared all as to content and completeness of info provided. Actually comparing the info provided for various illnesses and diseases.

I can not say enough about this book by far the best of the best at 4.65 stars. The nearest competitor came in at 3.9 stars. Very good graphics (color) and photos. Lots of extras, including contacts and web sites to further info. Very well organized and lots of info. Is by far the most complete and most comprehensive.

After my son was born, the doctors noticed some abnormalities with him. With each passing week, his problems were being reevaluated. I could read in detail the information on each new assumption made by his doctors. I usually use the internet to research such things, but found it more comforting to read these descriptions, review the pictures, and even readup on related topics.

There are also very helpful charts that you can use to try to narrow down the causes of your medical problems. I plan to use this for my 10 year old daughter as well as myself.

The colored pictures are extremely useful. It shows you exactly what each illness is like. This is the best home medical reference available.
