Product Description

HISTORY s ratings record-breaker is back for another installment!

In small towns, and along America's back roads, treasures are waiting to be uncovered valuable relics from our history that are hidden in junk piles, buried in barns and stacked in garages. It takes experts to find them and turn rust to riches. American Pickers follows two of the most skilled pickers Mike Wolfe, owner of Antique Archaeology, and his business partner, Frank Fritz as they hunt down objects with historical, collectible and pop culture value. Along the way, they meet people whose own stories open a window into American lives and history. AMERICAN PICKERS: VOLUME 4 proves there s no place Mike and Frank won t go in search of hidden treasure as they pick through the hills of Malibu, California, go to a backcountry Alabama auction, and go on assignment for William Shatner.

Explanation For Lower Rating:

I'm not sure what the History Channel is doing with their DVD releases this year, but it is certainly a step in the wrong direction. When they released "Pawn Stars: Volume Three," many people assumed that the show would be Season Three as the other two seasons of the program had been released in their entirety. It was, in fact, only sixteen episodes. When they released "American Pickers: Volume Two," it was the same thing. Season One had been released with all episodes, but this Volume Two was only eight episodes of Season Two. I know some people that preordered sight unseen, or just weren't paying attention, felt a little shortchanged by these smaller portions as opposed to what they had assumed were full season DVD releases. Personally, I didn't agree with the decision but, at least, the DVD packaging was very clear about what was included. Anyone who read the box knew what to expect: how many episodes and which ones, so it wasn't a blind investment!

Now here's a leap backwards for "American Pickers,Volume 4."

I am sitting here with the DVD in hand and nowhere does it say how many episodes are inside. Never mind that it doesn't list them (which in my opinion it should if it is not a Complete Season package), it doesn't even tell you how many episodes you are getting. I suppose I'm supposed to look at the running time and do some estimated mathematics? I know this may seem trivial to some or that I'm overreacting, but I think the company owes potential buyers this information. My lower rating, therefore, reflects the History Channel's (or A&E Networks distributing) apparent disregard for its own fan base. I don't like to make purchases without knowing exactly what I'm paying for!

I do not consider myself a reality show fan. But I love Mike, Frank and Danielle. I enjoy antiques and collectibles. I enjoy the people they encounter along the way. One thing I really enjoy is the way they respect the people they meet, no matter what the circumstances. It gives me hope that public civility is not completely gone from the American landscape.

Once again, don't be fooled. this is "volume 4" from season 2.
it is NOT season 4.
sure it says "volume" but if you're not familiar (which i wasn't) with that brand of marketing it's easy to not realize you're being tricked. If they wanted to be honest. they'd say "Volume 4 of Season 2" so clearly this is a bit of dis-honesty hoping to trick you into not being careful. Well done amazon. I became complacent and forgot, you don't trust anywone, not even someone you've bought from for years.

Yes, it's a "reality" show...however, the writers on this show are brilliant! Great running gags and the stars are evolving as characters. Plus, you get to see fun childhood stuff and kudos to the research staff who give little one-sentence history lessons in every episode.

Always a good time, chemistry between Mike, Frank and Danny is fun. The people they meet and the things they find I find very educational. And seeing all the beauty of the nation in the process is great.

Love Frank and Mike!! They are hard working, knowledgeable in many areas, kind hearted and honest as any business man I have ever seen!! Every place they leave the people they get to know are always happy to have met them and I feel like I know them already! I live only 30 minutes away from their store and am disabled so it is difficult for me to get to see them although I would love to. I love Danielle, Mike's brother and all the characters that make this country great! You learn a lot about the history of this great country and it saddens me sometimes to see what we used to make in this country instead of buying it overseas!! Love this show and am so happy that what I used to do when I was 19 and would drive all the back roads of this country is still be done and I can watch it from the comfort of my home! I do wish I could make 1 trip with them but it will be my hope to just meet them and hopefully they are kept on the History channel for years to come!! God bless these guys!! :-)
Joni :-)

I have enjoyed this series because of the great American people that Mike and Frank showcase on the show. I think this show does a lot to promote a gentler, kinder side of real Americans. It does some good to "undo" much of the negative perception Americans receive from the excessive, morally bankrupt effect of shows like the Kardashians.

However, as much as I used to love this show, I do think it has a somewhat canned feel to it. I doubt that Danielle is really more than a prop for the show, and Frank appears to be pretty weary of the show at this point. He is almost humorless in many of these episodes. Also, the ad placement for Subway is annoying. I hope it paid off for them, because I am completely turned off now. I used to really adore these guys. Just too scripted...it has lost its luster for me.
