The movie is a classic but the soundtrack is less memorable, partly because the catchiest tune in the movie isn't on the soundtrack: Harvey Danger's "Flagpole Sitta" ("Been around the world and found that only stupid people are breeding"). Save your money and buy something you'll play more than once.

I bet the first thing people noticed when the bought the soundtrack was "Where's Barenaked Ladies' One Week? or Hole's Celebrity Skin? or even Oleander's I Walk Alone?"

Believe me, I said the same thing. But the soundtrack is still a good one. Tonic leads the way with the only track to hit the airwaves with "You Wanted More". That song was the whole reason why I bought the CD. But after awhile the soudtrack was a pretty good one. One artist that was Bic Runga's Sway which you may have heard from the Lilth Fair Samplers/Albums they gave out at the festival. Blink 182's Mutt was a good track which resembles their old tunes compared to their recent ones. Dishwalla, Super Transatlantic, and Shades Apart added some great songs that made this soundtrack a good one.

As you may notice most of these performers are under the Universal label and out to look for exposure ( which worked with me, I now follow Bic Runga and Super Transatlantic's work).

To pretty much sum it all up, I was dissapointed that all the songs in the first paragrah were not in the album but with the unheard bands with catchy and soft tunes made up for it! Good soundtrack to listen to and I highly recommend it!

Many soundtracks that are released often try to reflect the image of the films concerned. Well, this particular one does that as well, and in fact does it very well. Most of the 13 tracks featured are up-tempo numbers, songs which reflect the youthful vibrancy of high school life, which forms the essence of the movie. From the opening track "New Girl" by Third Eye Blind, one is brought into this frenzy of energetic tunes, which will definitely wake any sleepy head. Check out Blink 182's "Mutt", Sugar Ray's "Glory" as well as Goldfinger's "Vintage Queen" and you will understand why.

However, before one gets out of breath bobbing one's head to the fast melodies, two slower numbers surface from within the CD, thanks to the talented lady Bic Runga. She is a very established singer/songwriter from New Zealand and the two songs which she contributed to this soundtrack, a duet with Dan Wilson of Semisonic called "Good Morning Baby" and a solo effort called "Sway" are simply lovely. The former is a refreshing listen which strays away from the typical mushy love duet one often hears on the radio, while "Sway" is just the kind of song one can enjoy as one is cruising on the highway after a day's hard work.

As mentioned in the heading of this review, gems abound in this CD, so credits go to more great tunes, such as Super Transatlantic's "Super Down", Dishwalla's "Find Your Way Back Home" and also "Summertime" (fabulous song!)by Bachelor Number One.

The soundtrack ends in the same manner as it starts, this time with a superb, lively swing tune from The Atomic Fireballs called "Man With The Hex".

A CD worth many listens, no doubt.

It was one of those films where I came out of it and then straight away I thought I have to go out and buy the soundtrack because it was so great in the film. Now, I have done that before and I know that when you get the cd home it doesn't always sound as good as it did in the film. BUT....this time when I got home and played the cd in great anticipation as usual I loved it. I spent the rest of the day listening to it with my friend and trying to remember all the bits in the film where the music was palyed. I especially like tracks 8 and 9. If you liked the film then I figure that you would love the music. If you haven't seen the film (and for God's sake, why not ?) then you will still love the album because, unlike many other soundtracks it can be appreciated for thge music on its own.

In the scene where Jim strips for Nadia, the song playing on the radio is not "Sandstorm" by Darude. It is actually written by Brian Transeau, better known as BT. Sometimes it will appear under BT's name, other times it might say performed by Anomaly, and the song is called "Calling your name".

What I really loved about this soundtrack is that it avoided putting on the Don Mclean version of the song or a cover of it from an unknown American Indie band.

Down to business and that business is the soundtrack and it's content. This soundtrack, for me, has about five good songs on it. I hear you gasp.....only five!

Lets think about it. Buy five songs seperately and they'll come to more than the album. This way, I save a couple of bucks and also have an album to boot!

The song 'You wanted more' has an excellent chorus that everyone can relate to. Pity about the obscure verses. However, the chorus of this song makes the verses grow on you to the extent that you actually like them.

The best song on this album though has to be the main song of the film, 'Sway.' This song is excellent. You hear the lyrics and you just sit there and say to yourself, 'I know excactly what you mean man.'

The band behind 'Sway' combine with Dan Wilson from Semisonics to perform 'Good Morning Baby,' which is also a brilliant song that you can just sit and be mellow to.

The main problem with this album though is that apart from the five songs that I listen to, the others just seem to be there to fill it up. What I mean by this is that when you buy a soundtrack, it's on the basis of watching the movie.

So, you get the soundtrack home, you stick it in and then the songs flood over you bringing the film back to life in your head. This only happens with 5 of the songs on this album.

The rest just seem to be there to make it an official album cos lets face it, who's seen an album with just five songs on it? Not me anyway.

I do however advise buying this album because it's the only one I can find with the song 'Sway' on it.

I recently watched Amercan Pie on cable and was aware just how much I was enjoying the soudtrack. Great songs are used throughout the movie. I then decided to buy the soundtrack and was horrified to discover that the CD has practically none of the featured songs in the movie. Instead it's limp collection of sound-a-like songs by dull sound-a-like bands that are barely even used in the movie except in the extreme back ground. A complete let down. This soundtrack CD should be held up as the biggest con ever and shouldn't be represented as the real soundtrack to the movie. It's more like one of those pathetic "more music from..." CD's that have become popular recently as a way to snag more cash from consumers. Absolute rubbish. Buy it at your peril!!!

I've seen this movie and own it! This soundtrack is great but there are some missing songs. The missing songs were Flagpole Sitta, One Week, and some other song that I really wanted to hear that was playing during the theatrical trailer. My favorite bands on the soundtrack are (Third Eye Blind, Blink 182, Bic Runga, and Shades Apart.) I don't really like Tonic and the other songs. The only thing that I am concerned about is why they didn't put that song on the soundtrack during the Interent scene. If you know who Harvey Danger is that song from the movie Disturbing Behavior is in that Harvey Danger CD and the name of that song is Flagpole Sitta. Further of all this is a good soundtrack and I recommened that you should get it! If you liked this movie, you will like the soundtrack!

I heard this soundtrack from my sister, who watched American Pie before I did. After watching the movie, I borrowed the soundtrack from her. Wow!

Third Eye Blind's "New Girl", is really great, even though their other song from the movie, "Semi-Charmed Life", is much better in my opinion. The other standout songs on this CD are Tonic's "You Wanted More", "Good Morning Baby", from Dan Wilson and Bic Runga, "Mutt"- Blink 182, "Stranger by the Day", from Shades Apart, and Bachelor Number One's "Summertime". I didn't really like the last two songs, "Wishen" and "Man with the Hex", I think there are songs that could be better instead, like Hole's "Celebarity Skin" and Third Eye Blind's "Semi-Charmed Life".... and also that song at the very end... tho I forget it's name! Buy this soundtrack, it's amazing!
