Book Description

April 7, 2009
Danske Dandridge gives an account of the prisoners during the American Revolutionary War. Dandridge uses personal narratives to enhance her own words. This book was written so that we as a nation would not forget the sacrifices of so many men for our freedom. Some of the accounts include Jonathan Gillette, William Cunningham, a prison surgeon, a young boy, and a poet writing on the ship. There are sections on Washington and Franklin. The book ends with an appendix including the names of all 8000 men imprisoned on British ships.

It is with no desire to excite animosity against a people whose blood is in our veins that we publish this volume of facts about some of the Americans, seamen and soldiers, who were so unfortunate as to fall into the hands of the enemy during the period of the Revolution. Read the first page
