Book Description

August 1997 Review of Psychiatry (Book 16)
In order to maintain an up-to-date practice and provide patients with the best possible care, psychiatrists and health care professionals need access to the latest scientific research and newest advances in treatment. In the 16th volume of this vital reference series, more than 40 internationally and nationally recognized experts describe and evaluate the latest research, treatment, and diagnostic advances in the areas of cognitive therapy, repressed memories, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychopharmacology across the life span, and psychological and biological testing issues for psychiatrists. This volume also includes an informative section devoted to the use of computers in clinical work that challenges readers to consider how computers can be incorporated into patient care as we approach the 21st century.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Prepared by outstanding clinician-researchers, the section extends the frontiers of cognitive therapy to a wide variety of disorders that were relatively non-responsive to psychotherapeutic interventions in the past. Among the disorders for which the psychotherapeutic approach has been beautifully crafted in this volume are: panic disorder, social phobias, substance abuse, personality disorders, eating disorders, chronic and bipolar depression, and schizophrenia. Drawing on the scope of the frontiers of cognitive therapy, psychotherapists can now ply their skills to helping patients for who medications are insufficient."-- "Aaron T. Beck, M.D., University Professor Emeritus, University of Pennsylvania, Department of Psychiatry, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania"
