Wonderful text,

This book was a great find for me. It's a little bit expensive but well worth the money. The book contains 400 pages of very high yield information not only on Part I but also great, I believe, for the PRITE. Most prefers the Stein's, Update Board and Ward book at my program but that book was published in 2003,obviously out-of-date, and the Ivy League slant in that book is often nauseating. This book, on the other hand, is published by the APA, contain materials from 4-5 other texts from experts in the field, and referenced the 2006 APBN list of tested topics. In my opinion, this book is currently the best of its kind.

Just took the PRITE recently, and felt this book decently prepared me for the exam, no doubt in large part because it's an APA publication. It's easy to read, a manageable length, and covers the basics pretty well. Some sloppiness, though, like not including the DSM IV-TR diagnostic criteria for ADHD in the childhood disorders section, while including the criteria for the other disorders in the chapter. Still, I like it, though it's definitely no substitute for reading a real text like Kaplan & Sadock Synopsis or at least the Concise text.

A Weak Resource,
By A. Kathisia (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The American Psychiatric Publishing Board Prep and Review Guide for Psychiatry (Paperback)
Most of the material is not useful for ABPN Part 1. Very few questions follow each topic. Without more questions it is not easy to gauge whether you know the topic well enough, or what the take away points are.
Too much text. This APPI book seems like cut and pasted bits from various APPI sources rather than a useful original summary (i.e., REVIEW) of important topics. It also lacks clearly outlined study points.

This book is pretty much revision for those who already know the subject.
