They forgot many many songs in the movie,

I love the movie hands down of course. But the soundtrack, what in the heck were they thinking? Yes some songs that were in the movie are included in the movie soundtrack but they should of included all of the songs in the movie!
If I had to redo the soundtrack over again, here is what I would include: You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) - Dope Monologue 1 - John Cale Walking on Sunshine: Katrina and the Waves Something In The Air (American Psycho remix)- David Bowie Lady in red; Chris DeBurgh Watching Me Fall (Underdog remix)- The Cure John Cale's Dialogue to bartender during New order song New Order-True Faith Addicted to Love-Robert Palmer The christmas carol played at evelyn's christmas party Monologue 2 - John Cale Trouble - Daniel Ash John Cale's dialogue during hip to be square Hip to be square-Huey Lewis and the News Genesis-In too deep John Cale dialogue when Sussudio is playing Sussudio-Phil Collins Paid In Full (Coldcut remix) - Eric B. & Rakim Who Feelin' It (Philip's Psycho mix) - Tom Tom Club Monologue 3 - John Cale (during information society song) What's On Your Mind - Information Society (Pure Energy mix) Pump Up The Volume - M/A/R/R/S Whitney Houston dialogue by John Cale (There were would be no need to skip over to track 98) The greatest love of all (movie instrumental) Paid In Full - The Racket (remix) Chainsaw noise &"christie" screaming--from the movie Track 98--The Closing dialogue from the movie But still including stuff from the 80's and a remake of phil collins "in the air.." and dead or alive's "you spin me around.." earns the soundtrack a 4 in my book.

Killer soundtrack.,

Like any cd ever released, this could have been better, plus or minus a few songs. What's missing most are the "Phil Collins", and especially "Huey Lewis" songs. "Hip to be Square" was THE song of the movie. However, what's included is all good stuff, be it 80's tunes, or more modern rock. You can't go wrong with "The Cure", "David Bowie", or "Daniel Ash" (from "Love&Rockets"). The tracks from "Eric B. & Rakim" and "Tom Tom Club" are fun, and the "Information Society" song, well that's pure energy of course. Probably what makes this soundtrack a "cut" above the rest, are the monologue's from Patrick Bateman himself. He covers everything you need to know about diet and exercise, emotions, and "Whitney Houston". Bloody good movie too.

Not the obvious choices,
By
This review is from: American Psycho: Music From The Controversial Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Fans of the film will immediately notice that the most obvious and up-front tracks from the film have not been included on this disc. Sussudio, Hip to Be Square, Simply Irresistible, Walkin' on Sunshine, Lady in Red--none of these songs appear on the soundtrack. Which means people either like this disc or hate it. Personally, I do like what they have included here. However, I think the film warranted a better overall release, and I don't just mean song selection. For instance, like many recent films that have featured extensive period music (Grosse Pointe Blank, The Wedding Singer, Boogie Nights), it may have been a nice idea to release 2 separate CDs. One could have been the songs mentioned above, all of the obvious choices, and the other could be this one, the single offical release. While I appreciate the choice by the album producers NOT to put the most obvious tracks on the disc and instead opt for a more eclectic selection from the film, you still have to wonder how they DID NOT release another disc with Sussudio and the other major tracks as there have to be legions of people who would snatch that up.... As for the music, there are some good, fun late '80s tracks here. My favorite would be the classic Coldcut remix of Erik B and Rakim's Paid in Full. The other highlights include You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) by Dope, True Faith by New Order, What's On Your Mind by Information Society, and of course Pump up the Volume by M/A/R/R/S. Sure, they're all the most popular tracks, but they comprise very good selection and work well on one disc. Also featured is a David Bowie song from his last album that plays over the closing credits. Another non-80s song is The Cure's Watching Me Fall, which is given a fantastic remix treatment here from Underdog.... It's a fantastic, moody but dancy track with Robert Smith's distorted vocals. And on the subject of Goth there's also a nice Daniel Ash track.... Oh, and be sure to let the final track play all the way out. There's a bonus track of dialogue, featuring Patrick Bateman's serious, detailed analysis of Whitney Houston's music that's quite funny.

Wicked,
This review is from: American Psycho: Music From The Controversial Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is 100% pure class. If there is a more subtle soundtrack to compliment a film I havn't heard it. If you like the film you'll love the music, though it does stray from using the traditional cheesy 80s music true to 1987 such as Rick Astely and Level 42 (Real Yuppie Misic). The best Soundtrack since Grease 2! Buy It Now! Top music at low low prices!

Great soundtrack, Great movie butmissing a few tracks such as "Sussidio" one of the key songs in the movie. The music is a key factor of Bateman's personality (or lack thereof). This is a must with so many great songs, but remember thats not all there is....

The only thing that kept me from giving this album a solid 5 stars ranking was the fact that Phil collins's "Sussudio" is missing.
As a fan of this great movie, it seemed a bit strange that this song, which was playing during one of the film's most memorable scene, failed to be included in this album. Other than that, this is a great soundtrack album, and I highly recommend it. Great music indeed!

American Psycho,

Very appropriate music for the film - decadent, hedonistic, sexually ambivalent 80s dance club. It was a new age and a new freedom for self indulgence where more people could sense that 'anything goes' and old morals were either questionable or completely discountable. That's the way it was.

I own this movie and have seen it many, many times with friends. The music from the film is GREAT! However, I'm slightly disappointed with the soundtrack. It is missing the true highlight songs of the movie by 'Phil Collins' and 'Huey Lewis'. It is also missing one of my favorites, "I Touch Roses" by 'Book of Love' which was played in the cab scene when he was taking Patricia (the strung out drug addict who passed out in her food at the restaurant) home. All and all, I give the soundtrack a 3 for the GREAT artwork on the casing and of course for the music it did not leave out.

Hmm...interesting,
This review is from: American Psycho: Music From The Controversial Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This was a present. So from the beginning I had absolutely no idea what to expect. It starts off promising.....Dope's cover of You spin me Right Round is great. So is The Cure and David Bowies tracks. Then it gets a bit boring for a while, and Daniel Ash's Trouble appears out of nowhere like a gem in in a second hand shop. To be a bit more positive though, the album is put together very, very well. The monologue fragments are very clever, even if weve all heard them already. Buy it if your a fan of the movie, but otherwise don't bother. NB: Will someone tell me what the point of the secret track is??

Your typical movie sound track,
By Rob Shamas (Ottawa, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: American Psycho: Music From The Controversial Motion Picture (Audio CD)
I'ts your typical movie soundtrack, in that it is a mix ofvaroius artists of different styles, with of course the occasionalremix. Many people predicted the soundtrack would contain cheesy eighties hits by bands such as genisis and witney Housten. What in effect happend then was that a decision was made to either make an appropriate soundtrack or qaulity soundtrack. Since the soundtack contains none of the music mentioned in the book, you can assume that the music on the soundtrack was so good that it was worth cancelling music that fit the movie more. And you would be right. The new order track is still as fresh as anything produced today, and the David Bowie is fantastic (this from a non Bowie fan). I onely have to ask the question , why didn't they use Bowies's "I'm afraid of Americans"? You may have trouble finding this title so you will probably have to buy it here. END |
