Book Description

10 and up5 and upBattles and Leaders
American history's important moments have often taken place on the battlefields of war. Rich with detail and atmosphere, American Revolution Battles and Leaders shows and tells readers where the key battles took place, what happened during the clashes, and who the main figures were in the struggle for independence from England. Portraits, scene paintings, photographs of artifacts, and locator maps all play a part in illustrating this essential handbook to the Revolutionary War.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Reviewed with Civil War Battles and Leaders .

Gr. 6-12. These two slim, heavily illustrated volumes in the Battles and Leaders series may appear slight, but in fact they are filled with great information and statistics that are not always immediately available. They are also stellar examples of the publisher's knack for making visuals an integral part of the information-gathering process. Students wanting in-depth analysis will need to go elsewhere, but these work well for quick facts, background, and clear summaries of a host of battles (in chronological order). Notes appear on military and political figures whose names dot the pages of more comprehensive history texts. Attractively placed color spot art, thumbnail-sized portraits, small maps showing troop movements, vintage photos, and helpful pull-quotes comprise half of each well-designed spread, and helpful captions greatly extend the text. Pages are packed with visuals and text, but everything is so effectively presented that the spreads never seem crowded. Browsers who like history will be in their element; students who need report material about the battles during the American Revolution or the Civil War will find much more in these overviews than in their textbooks.
