Brass at its best,
By M.M. Rodenbucher "Larry" (Philly suburbs) - See all my reviews
This review is from: All American (Audio CD)
If there is a better brass band in the U.S. than the River City Brass Band, I don't know who it would be or how they could be. These people are stunning players, so well-rehearsed and virtuousic as to cause a brass player (me) to shake his head in amazement. Their ensemble playing is terrific, but so, too, are their solos. They play parts on the cornet (or...) that would be difficult on a clarinet or flute (or...), and make them sound easy. And they sound so relaxed and natural while doing it. Just listen to the suite from "The Natural" (appropriately enough)or the American Overture for Band or my favorite, Midwest March. Great playing and great enjoyment. And if the selection on THIS CD isn't to your tastes, try one of their others. All of them are exceptionally well-played.
