The Donnas--an unbiased, honest review.,
By
This review is from: American Rock N Roll Machine (Audio CD)
I am not a teenage fan boy, nor am I an aging rock fan who thinks rock and roll ended with the Ramones. I'm simply a music lover who read about this group, and picked it up out of curiosity. I'm not in love with any of the band members. The Donnas are a terrific reminder of just how much fun it can be to pump your fist in the air and yell along with your favorite sleazy lyrics. These girls are young, but they are serious, and attack their music with a ferocity often lost in today's pop/hip hop culture. Donna A's gritty vocals come across as half sneer, half smile, and the musicians, led by Donna R's impressive guitar crunching, give the sound a raw, youthful edge. Is it original? Maybe not particularly. But it does seem fresh and new against the backdrop of today's mainstream radio. It's loud, unpolished, unapologetic...and a helluva lot of fun to listen to. Bottom line: if you love smarmy teen idol pop, overproduced rap with metal overtones, or machine driven hip hop, then rejoice, for the world is still yours. For we chosen few who like our rock loud, fast, angry and dirty, I'll happily take The Donnas.

Why The Donnas? Because They Rock!,
By
This review is from: American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine (Audio CD)
If ChickBand was a country, these girls would be president..or president(s)..or queens. Look, I don't know, but take my word--This CD is very awesome and very fun. Until about a year ago I was completely unaware of the fearsome foursome I've grown to love, and I owe it all to my dear friend Ginger who introduced me. That's why I am now spreading the word myself, to introduce *more* people to this group that deserves *more* recognition! Whether you're chanting along to Gimmie My Radio or banging your head to Rock 'N' Roll Machine or drumming along to that one part in You Make Me Hot on your steering wheel, you're having a great time. Great energy, and great girls. What else can you ask for? Can't wait to Turn 21 on Jan. 23rd..

Great rock C.D.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine (Audio CD)
If you want to buy your first Donnas C.D. you can skip the self-titled and buy this. I first bought Spend the Night and sort of went backwards. I just bought this CD and it was great. I have listened to their other onces a million times and needed something new. There are 10 tracks on here and I love them all! This is a great rock 'n' roll album. I love the old Donnas days when their CDs sounded more raw-ish than now if you know what I mean. Rock n Roll Machine is a good opener. This is like, a teenager's anthem right here. I also really like 'Checkin it Out' because it has a cool guitar solo. The guitar and bass on Speed Demon is really rad and makes it one of my favorite songs. And I also love Shake in the Action too. Donna R. aka Allison is a great guitarist and most bands have to have a great guitarist if I am going to listen to them. Also Donna C. is a pretty good drummer but she plays pretty basic beats on the album and still does today. It gets boring. Sorry, I have to say it. This is still a good cd nonetheless. I reccomend it to rock fans of every age.

This review is from: American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine (Audio CD)
If ever their was a Runaway University these gals would definately hold Masters Degrees. The song You Make Me Hot is the Donnas' take on Joan Jett's version of Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah). Rock N Roll Machine their take on Bad Reputation/I Love Rock N Roll thus establishing their own reputation. Defiantely the CD to start out your collection with. To sample go to [their website] and prove me right.

The Donnas At Their Best,
By "feckdangler" (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: American Rock N Roll Machine (Audio CD)
The negative reviews in here are pretty funny. EVERY band is derivative of other sources, including the Donnas. Were the Stones totally original? Go ask Chuck Berry...The Donnas are a great rock'n'roll band. I think this set of tunes is their strongest...Yeah, she can't really sing, but so what? I respect them for doing something that rocks, and not just trying to fit in with current trends...The guy who hates them because they don't sound like the bands he likes was funny, too. That's right, guy. Nothing is good unless YOU like it. ahahaha

Donnas are pure rock 'n' roll,
By

In today's MTV-crazed world it's hard to find something that one can really rock out to. The days of rockin' for a good time and doin' it well are long gone. Or are they? Meet the Donnas. If you're a fan of the Ramones, these four girls may as well be their female counterparts. (I'm crazy about both bands.) Donna R's guitar riffs, Donna F's bass and Donna C's banging on the drums back up Donna A's vocals about sex, drugs, and -- what else? -- rock 'n' roll. Also make sure to check out Get Skintight -- the follow-up to this one, and another example of rock at its finest.

The best straight-up rock n' roll album sinse "Ramones",
By
This review is from: American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine (Audio CD)
No kidding! Check it out, you'll agree with me.These kids blast out of the gate with the catchiest tunes and coolest attitude out there, and are a bracing antidote to all the homoginized pop product now glutting the airwaves. All the songs on "Teenage Rock n' Roll" are virtual classics, but for me the standouts are the title track, which could easily pass for a great lost Ramones rocker,as well as "Checkin' It Out","Gimmie My Radio",and the deliciously titled "Leather on Leather".These kids rock out with such effortless bravado and unself-concious rock n' roll spirit that they make other, more "serious" and "authentic" rock bands look like overblown bores in comparison. If you're lookin' for a platter to kick-start a party, help you blow off steam at your [...] job, play air-guitar to,or help you just get all the other boring music out there out of your head, then slap "American Teenage Rock n' Roll" on yer hi-fi and get ready to rock!

The best Donnas album ever,
By "acidbear" (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews

The Donnas are taking the world by storm. With each album getting better and now they are taking on the movie world as well. Some of the songs on this album appear in the new teen flick, "Drive Me Crazy," where the band poses as "The Electrocutes," plating somgs off this album such as, "Outta My Mind and American Teenage Rock N Roll." The band also appears in the movie "Jawbreaker." These girls rock, and the entertainment world seems to be catching on.

Wanna Buy A Donnas Cd? Start Right Here...,
By "The Woj" (Downers Grove, IL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: American Teenage Rock 'n' Roll Machine (Audio CD)
This is the best place to start your initiation to the band. Imagine taking Joan Jett & The Runaways, The Ramones, New York Dolls and little of Ace Frehley's guitar, throw 'em all in a blender and...presto...you've got a slight idea of the Donnas sound. Buy this cd and every one of their subsequent albums. My advise is to stay clear of their self-titled debut unless you've got some extra cash to burn. But this review is about "A.T.R 'N' R. Machine" I second all the wonderfull things said on previous reviews with a few exceptions: 1. Most people who drive Jeeps (with non-removeable roofs) are weenies. Especially if he's sportin' the way out of style goatie beard or she's got her hair pulled thru the back of a baseball cap. 2. The Donnas have become "slight" media pimps doing ads for Target. But hey if they get some extra dollars, more power to them. 3. Save them fancy, big city words like "pathos" for reviews of the works of Plato or Aristotle...they don't belong when descibing great rock 'n' roll. Period!
