5.0 out of 5 stars Works just fine!
I bought this for my son's Science Project on Tornados. It worked like a charm in creating a "tornado" in a bottle. No leakage and was easy to assemble! Makes a pretty cool visual for kids!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
The tube cracked after only a few times making different bottles. I would suggest just putting it on once and leaving it alone.

I bought this for my nephew for his birthday. He is very fascinated with tornados so he loved this thing. I got 2 of them so that when he comes to visit he has 1 here. I read on another site to put sparkles and little houses ffrom monopoly in there or small farm animals he did that when he got home that night. Very fun toy for a child interested in tornados.

Like others have said, it really is a simple little gadget, but tons of fun. From ages 3 to 43, you just can't stop playing around with the setup. Spinning it at different speeds, getting the water rotating sideways then tipping it up, and watching the size and shape of the resulting whirlpool effect.

A couple of notes:

Tried playing around with 20oz bottles first, worked for creating the whirlpool, but the openings are slightly different and could not get a good seal so there were water leaks.

Used plumber's teflon tape when putting it on two 2-liter bottles and that worked like a charm. Filled it with about a tablespoon of multicolored glitter. About half of it floats and half sinks. Then added some red food coloring to get a rich red color.

Now flip it up and give it a good few seconds of swirl! It's great to watch the whirlpool form, and watch the floating glitter oscillate up and down the funnel as it tries to decide whether buoyancy or gravity wins!

5.0 out of 5 stars TORNADO, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Tornado Tubes [Toy] (Toy)
I was looking for one of these "tornado"tubes for my son who is autistic. There was a "tornado" in his class at school, that he just loves to play with, so we wanted one for home. It really captures his attention, and he will play with it for a long period of time. I recieved it within just a few days of placing my order.

My preschool son is into volcanos, tornados, and hurricaines. This has been his favorite toy since he received it over a month ago. Plays with it many times a day, loves to make and show tornados. Took it to school for show and tell. He has learned a lot about tornadoes and the weather and is fascinated by this toy. Used 2 smooth water bottles (rather than soda bottles; they're a little smaller and easier to handle for a preschooler). We added some glitter for effect. Doesn't leak, can't break (it's just a short plastic tube-shaped piece that allows you to screw 2 bottles together). Love this thing!

I work as a Emergency Services volunteer doing outreach and education. I use the tornado tube as an attention getter for the children to visit my table. When putting the two bottles together, if you take off the plastic piece that is around the neck of the bottle there should be no leaks. Also, this can be used as a wonderful educational piece as long as you can supplement it with actual information about tornadoes. Not only understanding tornado's themselves as rotating columns of air, but also how the tornado forms within the tube is important. This will be a constant question posed by children and parents alike. When not used at fairs, my husband loves to play with this and does so often. It's great for everyone!

Having owned this for over a month, everyone who sees our two bottles hooked together with the Tornado Tube stops and gives it a shake. My kids love this toy and it has been more than worth the small purchase price.
