My Stack-On drawer safe is effective at keeping loaded pistols handy yet inaccessible to children.

It comes with the bolts necessary to anchor the unit to the floor if you are so inclined which is good.

The Amsec Defense Vault DV652 is a good tool to secure firearms in your bedroom. It is solidly built out of heavy gauge steel with a reliable electronic lock and lined slide out drawer.
I have an Amsec hotel safe secured in my kitchen pantry where we keep spare keys and other items you would want secured when you leave the house and was pleased with the build quality.
I was looking for a safe to access quickly in the dark with dulled senses and low motor skills and this fit the bill. I installed it under my bed and easily cabled it to my bedframe. The felt lined pull out shelf will fit a Home Defense Shotgun, an AR-15 type rifle and a hand gun or two. It lays there next to a fire extinguisher and a flashlight. I hope I never have to roll off my bed in the middle of night to fight a fire or protect myself and family , but if I do, I know this safe will be at my fingertips and I am confident t will open.

The DV652 nicely fills the niche between a cheap drawer safe and a large traditional gun safe. I definitely recommend this product at the right price, I paid about $400 locally for mine.

My Stack-On drawer safe is effective at keeping loaded pistols handy yet inaccessible to children. Alas security beyond that is nonexistent as these can all be accessed rather easily, as demonstrated in several Youtube videos. My large gun safe has a traditional mechanical lock for reliability, and is extremely secure with thick steel plate in the door and walls, weighing about one ton. Alas its size required a location far from my bedroom, and using the mechanical lock is a bit tedious... so lots of storage and great security, but not quick or convenient to access in a hurry which can prove fatal in an emergency situation. The DV652 fills the gap, accomodating a home defense shotgun, semi-automatic rifle, and a couple pistols plus lots of extra mags right under the bed, offering decent security and convenient access.

Exterior dimensions are 52" x 14" x 6". When unlocked, the door drops open to reveal a slide out drawer, with usable interior storage space of about 43" x 13" x 3". While fairly spacious, the height - specified by Amsec at 3-3/8" - is somewhat restricting and I had to remove flashlights and lasers from the side rails of my long guns to allow the drawer to close. Keep this in mind if your weapons are heavily accessorized. There are bottom holes which can be used to bolt the DV652 to the floor. Smaller holes on the top are there only for tools to access the bottom holes. It's reasonably hefty at about 75 pounds, but lacks the thick steel plate of high end gun safes.

Arrived with a minor dent in one of the long edges of the back of safe and a small gouge in one of the the metal edges on the front near the keypad - almost as if a sliver of steel was shaved off. Neither defect affects its security or function and I haven't wanted to mess with the hassle of shipping it back and getting to replaced... but needless to say the packing and treatment during shipping was inadequate.

Given the height of the safe, I thought I might have to modify the frame of my bed to fit it under or lift the bed itself, but it fits perfectly underneath and is very heavy so it stays put.

Fits a single tactical shotgun with room to spare. It might get a little crowded with 2 long guns in it but I haven't tested that.

The bolts that should be used to bolt the thing to the ground were floating around inside the safe and were really difficult to fish out. Other than that installation was pretty mindless.

I read an article and case study about various safes with electronic locks being susceptable to being opened by even a 3 year old with the right amount of jiggling and vibration. I tried all of the maneuvers that they put these safes through in the video on this subject and I couldn't get the electronic mechanism or door lock to malfunction and release unexpectedly. I'm satisfied that it is doing the job.

Used primarily as a way to keep weapons out of the hands of kiddos, this safe is delivering on expectations flawlessly.

//update 10/21/2014

Just something I ran into that might persuade me to lower the rating on this review to 3-stars. The other day I was heading to the range and wanted to get one of my firearms out of the defense vault. I put in my code like I always do and heard the solenoid clicking but the door would not unlatch. I tried 3-4 times and finally the door grudgingly opened. I removed the battery and tested it. While still in the "green" for current level it was a little lower than a brand new battery. I put in a brand new battery and the lock has opened every time I have tried it, probably about 15-20 tries.

Now, here's the problem. My lock is in stealth mode. Apparently (I suspect) the stealth mode feature disables the low battery chirp. Terrible idea for something that you might have to bet your life on. Low battery should alert whether in stealth mode or not.

Alternatively let's say that my battery was just on the edge of being low. This is still a big problem since every time the lock does not open there is a chance that it will be when you really REALLY need it to open.

I will be contacting AMSEC about this, because it's kind of unacceptable.

//original review follows

Like lots of others I was looking at a better than average option for securing a couple of firearms in the master bedroom of my residence.

I was concerned with the height of this safe as I knew it was taller than the frame of the bed I would need to place it under. With a backup option in mind (installing it at the end of a large master closet) I went ahead and ordered it from an Amazon competitor that had a coupon, bringing the price down into the ~$350 range shipped.
