This sequel to the original American Set Design continues the story. I was pleased to see that there were female designers included. I use these books to assist me when I teach Scenery Design, and also as inspriation for my own design work. A must have for any theatre designer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A standard for the Scenic designer, April 28, 2011

This review is from: American Set Design 2 (Hardcover)
This book introduces you to the greats of American Scenic Design. If you are a Scenic Designer, or a theatre buff, this book is a must. It is illustrated, but the designs within are extremely provocative, and you will find yourself searching for better images. This book is best described as a very visual encyclopedia for American Set Design.

This review is from: American Set Design 2 (Paperback)
I ordered American Set Design 2 because I wanted to use it with my students while teaching my Theatre Design class. I think it is very important to expose students in Theatre Design to current professional Theatre Designers and what is happening in the WORLD OF DESIGN. Each of my students were required to select one designer and write a brief paper on this Designer and then talk about the Designer of choice to the rest of the class which was a way for the rest of the class to learn about other Set Designers and worked very well for my small class. American Set Design 2 provided an excellent opportunity for my students to have this experience.

We are a small department and my students do not have the opportunity to see professional regional Theatre productions. The students had to explore the whole book before making their selection and this was the experience I wanted them to have. Having had the experience of attending the Yale School of Drama in their Design program gave me the opportunity I want to share with my students.
