5.0 out of 5 stars Encourages Patriotism
Very well done and easy for children to grasp. Helps children to be proud of their country and those that protect us. The pictures are perfect too. My grandsons read it at once.

1.0 out of 5 stars total propaganda
This is total propaganda, written by a Tea bagger activist and political opportunist. The "author" of this piece of trash should be ashamed of herself for glorifying war to children. This is the type of sick and twisted propaganda that perpetuates war, and leads people to become religious/political extremists.

1.0 out of 5 stars rated a 1 because thats the lowest it goes, August 1, 2011
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
As a woman who did her time in the army, i think this book is appalling by using religion and emotion to glorify war to children. I love my country, and through my own false sense of duty thought that equated to fighting for it. What I learned is that killing people doesnt equate to love of country like this author would apparently like her innocent audience to believe. War is murder, not Gods will or "patriotism". Perhaps she could also write a book teaching our children how education is fascist, as apparently she also believes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Real patriots don't print their books in China, August 6, 2011
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
That's pretty much it. It's shameful that Mrs Simac would go to the trouble of writing a book praising our troops and our country, but allow her publisher to have the printing done in China. It reminds me of those yellow "support our troops" magnets that people put on their cars, thinking they're helping the cause. In reality, the only party that benefits from the purchase of those stickers is the Chinese manufacturer. If you really want to teach your kids to respect our armed forces, take them to meet a serviceman or servicewoman. Don't support this unpatriotic woman or her Chinese printers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Children's Book Ever, August 6, 2011
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
This is a misguided book. The relationship that Simac draws between Christian faith, American patriotism and war is completely Unchristian. She wants God "To keep the world a happy place where all children can be safe to play," but apparently her God only wants to keep American children happy and safe. In this book it is acceptable and even preferable to fight and kill others we perceive as a threat to the American way of life. If Jesus believed that he would have killed those persecuting him. Sadly there are too many Americans who believe as Simac does.

Jesus taught us to love our neighbor and pray for our enemies. He would not let his disciples fight and protect him when the crowd came to take him away as Simac suggests Americans should do when other countries or peoples threaten us. It is not Christian to believe that God blesses one nation or group of people over another as Simac would have us believe.

I would not recommend this book for ANY child. It is not worth the paper and ink that was used to print it. Although I am sure that some of the Chinese people who worked on it had a good laugh.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good message, but can't use in the classroom, October 1, 2008
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
I was so excited to receive this book and 15 minutes after its arrival, I am back on Amazon for a return. My hope was to use this in the classroom because of the great message it has, however it would have been nice if it was mentioned that it discusses God and prayer. I'll have to find another book to read to my students before we write our thank you notes to the troops.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Support Our Troops You'll Love This Book, December 24, 2007
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
Regardless of your opinion of the war in Iraq, if you support our troops you'll love this book. The author has done an amazing job of capturing the themes of patriotism and service to our country in a way children can understand. Children (and adults) are bombarded with negative information about our country and men and women who serve it. This book builds both a love of country and rightfully makes heroes out of the men and women who fight to preserve our freedom.

The story will maintain a child's attention and the illustrations will also hold their interest. As a pastor, a father and a grandfather I can recommend it for your children and grandchildren. Two thumbs very up!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Child in the country should have this book!, November 16, 2008
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
I bought this book for my seven year old son who needed to do a book report. He loved the book so much that he decided to dress up as a soldier for Halloween. I think every child in this country should have this book. It teaches children what SADLY our schools no longer teach; to love God and our country and to respect and appreciate our soldiers who fight to give US our freedom. Great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book!, May 24, 2011
By
This review is from: American Soldier Proud and Free (Hardcover)
The content of this book fills a much needed gap in children's literature today. Through American Soldier Proud and Free, author Kim Simac has provided a way for kids to learn pride for America, respect for our military, and gratitude toward God. My children love the beautiful illustrations and have gained a sense of bravery in regard to protecting American liberties. I also highly recommend With My Rifle By My Side: A Second Amendment Lesson, another beloved children's book written by Kim Simac.
