Cadet-3 Elongated toilet
The Cadet 3 elongated toilet has an advanced flushing system and innovative features (view larger).
Cadet 3 Flushing System
In the most recent independent MaP (Maximum Performance) tests, the Cadet 3 flushing system received the highest possible rating, handling 1,000 grams of solid waste in a single flush. This means you can count on your Cadet 3 toilet for dependable one-flush performance.

Cadet 3's smart gravity design delivers higher performance with fewer clogs. Engineered for a stronger, more reliable flush, the Cadet 3 flushing system means you don't have to flush twice.

2-1/8-Inch Siphon Trapway
With a larger diameter than the industry standard, Cadet 3 toilets have a fully glazed siphon trapway. This trapway features no choke points and a two-inch ball pass to help prevent clogging, which means it can move a 60 percent larger mass than a standard two-inch trapway.

EverClean Surface
Treated inside and out, Cadet 3 tanks and bowls feature a permanent EverClean surface. This system incorporates a patented silver-ion additive right into the material to protect it from mold, mildew, algae, and fungus that could cause deterioration or staining. You'll love how the mirror-like EverClean surface is easy to keep clean and stays cleaner longer, even after years of use.

Five-Year Worry-Free Warranty
The Cadet 3 toilet is backed by a five-year warranty that covers everything inside and out.

I bought and installed a Cadet 3 in my home a couple of years ago and have had absolutely no issues since then. I would love to be able to afford to replace all of the toilets in my home with Cadet 3's but simply don't have the money to do it at this time. I have had NONE of the issues that those who are disappointed in this toilet say they have and quite frankly wonder if they have attempted to contact American Standard with their concerns since not only is the toilet warrantied but American Standard is a well established company that has a reputation to protect. I'm guessing that if one were to call American Standard and sound like a rational human being American Standard would do what ever they could to ensure that their product is performing as intended.

Finally, one of the negative reviews for this product scoffs at American Standard's claim of being able to flush a bucket of golf balls down this toilet. I'd like to point out that American Standard's claims about flushing buckets of golf balls applies to their Champion toilet and not the Cadet 3, so you have to wonder if that particular reviewer even knows what product they have in their home (I say this because it's possible they don't have the Cadet 3 or the Champion and are giving this toilet a negative rating unnecessarily). For the record I installed a Champion toilet in my in-laws home a month ago and although I haven't flushed a bucket of golf balls down it, it does appear to be capable of doing all that it says it can. Their only complaint is that they don't like the ADA compliant height model because they are short and they can't comfortably rest their feet on the floor (so if you're short get the toilet that's not listed as "Right Height" by American Standard).

In 2002, I installed four Cadet 3 (elongated) toilets, and I am very pleased with the experience. The ones I replaced also were American Standards -- older generation toilets built 1987 or prior, used over 4 gallons per flush; would need two flushes just about all the time; and would clog every 2 months or worse.

The cadet3 -- excellent. None have clogged at all. The cadet 3 is more efficient --- uses 1.6 gallons per flush, and a single-flush is all that is needed. [In one experiment, I disposed of approximately 2 pounds or more of dog-poo (over 2 weeks of "stuff" from my Siberian Husky) and the "stuff" were flushed cleanly by the Cadet 3.]

NOTE: The American Standard Cadet 3 is among the highest-rated toilets (in terms of "flushing power") by the Canadian Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), the California Urban Water Conservation Council (CUWCC), the U.S.-Canadian Alliance for Water Efficiency (AWE) and Veritec Consulting Inc.

This toilet has met all the challenges we've thrown at it for 3 years without clogging. Rarely, there will be an incomplete flush with traces of suspended residue remaining in the bowl. Rarely, there may be skid marks in the bowl. These are infrequent and minor issues to me, but might not be for others.

So why all the low ratings? Well, a few weeks ago, we ordered another version of the Cadet 3 (also 1.6 gpf, but a 14" rough in, not from Amazon), and the trapway on that one was not fully glazed and several small ragged bits of ceramic were glazed into the side of the trapway. These would certainly have snagged TP and may have been enough to change a high-performing toilet to a frequently clogging one. I suspect it doesn't take much to tip the balance in low-flow toilets like these. That was an American Standard QA/QC issue that may or may not apply to this version. We returned it. Inspect before you install.

A note on SIZE: In the recent installation, my flange bolts were 13.5" from the wall. I figured that - with the drywall - that amounted to a "14-inch rough-in." WRONG. The 14" Cadet 3 wouldn't fit against the wall - about 1/2" short. I replaced it with a 12" rough-in Cadet 3 FloWise Elongated High Efficiency (1.28 gpf, #2832.128.020). That one leaves a 2-inch gap between the tank and the wall, which I was trying to avoid in a small bathroom. So far (2 weeks), that toilet has also performed surprisingly well, although a little noisier flush than the 1.6 gpf Cadet 3.

This is a great product, but only as good as its weakest parts. The rubber on flapper mechanism is susceptible to dilute chlorine in treated municipal water. In just 9 months the rubber seat developed blisters (as many on the internet have noted) and it started to leak. It will no longer flush properly and will waste water ($). Many hardware stores do not stock OEM part because AS does not provide them retail yet, nor do they have Korky Cadet 3 equivalent. If you call AS for OEM replacement parts (5 year warranty) they will promise it was shipped and not even have it in stock. We're still waiting for ours, meanwhile our toilet continues to leak. The part has not been improved regardless of what they tell you. Inspect toilet (manufactured in Mexico) before purchase if possible: porcelain quality is poor. Many with chips, crack, etc..

After several DIY attempts to install a Cadet 3 toilet w/ result each time of a leak at the leading edge; called in a professional plumber. Plumber install also leaked. Determined mould pattern on bottom of bowl was defective (missing in areas) & so could not form a correct wax seal. Manufacturer refuses to acknowledge failure of their product; refuses to reimburse for plumber that should not have been required & offered up a $25 gift card to pay for the numerous wax seals used (and removed). Eventually installed a Kohler; no problems at all. Do not put your trust in their warranty; it is designed to protect American Brands; not the customer.
